Dear Parents,
We are still going strong this week with
activities.
Drama Club - A big round of applause goes to the students and parents who worked so hard to present the wonderful production
of Willy Wonka Junior. It exceeded
my expectations and was a wonderful testimony to what can be accomplished if you “Think Positive” and
put your mind to it. Thank you for your hard work.
Field Day - Was a blast today!!!!! Our parents who volunteered went above and beyond the call of duty.
They did a wonderful job cooking, serving, and organizing a great day for both our students and faculty. The day went so smooth
because of all their hard work. Thank you again for everything.
Graduates - Congratulations to our graduating class and their parents. We are so very proud of their
accomplishments. This class amassed over $77,000 in scholarship money for high school and was accepted into the high schools of their choice. In addition, they did an amazing
job on the New York State Science and Social Studies exams.
Nineteen students scored a 4, the highest score, on the Science Test; five of whom missed a perfect score by one percentage
point! Similarly, 18 students scored a 4 on the Social Studies exam and three of them had perfect scores!! Bravo students
and Mrs. Lemmey and Mrs. Holodak.

Dear Parents,
Thank
You - On behalf of the Transfiguration faculty, staff and myself, I would like to thank all our parents who volunteer their
talents, abilities and time to the Transfiguration students. Serving on committees, helping with playground supervision,
chaperoning on field trips, etc. all contribute to the positive environment at Transfiguration School. Parent volunteers
are a key ingredient to the success of Transfiguration School. Our school cannot be its best without you! It isn't
said often enough, but we do value and appreciate all your efforts. Please join the Guild and me at the End of Year Guild Social on Wednesday, June 16th, at 7:00 p.m.
New Lobby Benches - I would like to give a special thank you to the Scazafave family for the two beautiful
and much needed benches in the front lobby. These benches were donated by the Scazafave family in memory of Gregory J. Jadus, Class of 1984.
Congratulations! - Congratulations to
our eighth grade graduating class as they venture on to the high school of their choice. We are very proud that this
class did very well on their New York State tests; particularly the New
York State Science exam.
This was the first year giving the Science exam and I wasn't surprised by the fact that the class scored so well, with
(19) 4's and (5) mid to high 3's. Well done Mrs. Lemmey and class. You are well prepared in all subjects
for the rigors of high school.
Willy Wonka Junior - Transfiguration School Drama Club will present Willy Wonka Junior on Friday, June 18th at 7:00 p.m. and Saturday, June
19th at 7:00 p.m. in
the school gym. Tickets will be sold at the door. Adults $6.00 and Children & Seniors $4.00. The Drama Club,
the students and parents have put many hours into this performance and I encourage every family to come and bring friends
to see these performances. I am sure you will be amazed by all the talent we have at Transfiguration School.
College
Bound Class of 2006 - Congratulations to our Class of 2006 who will be graduating high school this year and
entering college. They have continued to do well. Particular congratulations go to Charlie Davidson who was written up in the Journal News and who was the Salutatorian
for Archbishop Stepinac High School this year.
Volunteers Needed - It takes an entire school community to run a top notch
school like Transfiguration. I am looking to tap into the wealth of talents that I see in our parent community.
If you can help out with Marketing, Development, Alumni Relations, or serve on a Guild committee, please consider giving a
couple of hours a month to help with these vital efforts. Please contact me over the summer to learn more about it.
Technology
Hackers! - Oh! the wonders of technology. If you received a mysterious email from Eileen Kyriacou requesting money,
please disregard it. Someone has hacked into her email address. She is not in the UK.
Tuition
and Scholarships - There are two new programs that will be available from the Archdiocese next year. The first
new program is the Children's Scholarship Partnership. The ultimate goal of this program is to attract new
Catholic families to schools in the upper counties. The second new program, NYCF Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) will provide funds to existing Catholic school families who are struggling financially to continue in Catholic Schools.
This needs based scholarship will range from $500.00 to $1,500.00, depending on the need demonstrated. I will forward
you more information as it becomes available.

Parents, As you look at the June calendar, you can
see there is quite a bit going on at Transfiguration this month. Please keep referring to it so you don’t miss
anything. Exams for Grades 5-8 - as well as New York State Science Exams
are currently underway. Please have your child/children to school on time so we may begin these exams on schedule. Sunday is Pentecost Sunday - All are welcome to participate in the procession
& Benediction. Our Second Graders will be part of the procession. Time Capsule - The students at Transfiguration School will be celebrating "60 Years of Excellence
in Education". The students will be participating in a number of activities to mark this momentous occasion.
Each class has been asked to help create a timeline of the past 60 years. Teachers will work with students to fill in
timelines, 60 things they love about Transfiguration School and events and milestones throughout the 60 years. The grand
finale will be ice cream for all students and teachers. Thank you in advance to all those who have helped to make this a
memorable event. Congratulations to Jasmine Rodrigo, an 8th grader
who won 3rd place in the Cardinal Cooke Respect for Life Essay Contest. Eighth grade students
from 95 Catholic elementary schools in the Archdiocese participated in the essay contest. Jasmine won $2,000.00 which
is applied to her tuition next year in high school. Jasmine will be attending The Ursuline School in
New Rochelle in the fall. I invite you to read Jasmine's essay, which can be found on the Catholic New York's
Web site, www.cny.org. Also
with regards to scholarships..... I am very proud of the fact that our current Eighth Grade class has accumulated over $77,000.00
in scholarships for high school. Congratulations to the students and bravo to the teachers for another job well done! Parent Information Night - Please plan on attending this important event. Child Psychologist, Dr. Barbara Kapentanakes,
will discuss how impulse and self control have significant implications throughout childhood and adulthood. Learn parenting
tips about how to foster good impulse control in your child at home, on the playground, and in school. This talk will
be geared for all ages from 4 through 14. It will take place on Wednesday, June 9th from
7:00 PM - 8:00PM. Admission is free. Guild Social - On Wednesday, June 16th at 7:00 pm, in the school library, the
Parent Guild will host a social event to thank this year's board and welcome next year's board. I have invited
the 35 new families who have registered for next year, as this is a great opportunity to meet and get comfortable with the
school community. I would also like to encourage all of you to attend. Summer School - Parents of students currently in grades 3, 4, and
5, please be aware that the school is running a summer school for students who are struggling in Math and ELA. This
is a four week program which runs from July 5th - July 30th, Monday through Thursday.

Festival Raffle Winners Announced
- Have you noticed the wonderful "Strawberry Festival" posters around town? They are the creation of our artists
in Kindergarten, First and Second Grade. Under the guidance of Mrs. Amato, these lovely works have helped announce the
45th rendition of a Tarrytown tradition. In appreciation for their efforts, the Historical Society held a
raffle for all participants. The following students have been awarded complimentary shortcake as part of the Festival.
All are invited to attend the Festival this Sunday, June 6th, from 1:00 to 4:00
pm. The Winners

- Is scheduled for Tuesday, June 22nd. The field day committee is asking for any families
who can lend them a canopy tent to be used for field day. They are looking for about 3 or 4 tents which will provide
more shade for the students during lunch. Please contact Mrs. LeeAnne Sullivan at 631-4512 if you have a tent they can
use. Tuition- Don't forget that all tuition payments
must be in by June 15th. Please be reminded that we will again collect tuition from August
- May 2010-2011. We will send home your 10 month tuition book with the summer letter in August. Your
tuition rates will be based on the contributions to the church as of August 15, 2010. This will enable
us to set up the SIS system to record tuition as well as give us a better opportunity to record end of year tuition before
June. Finally - School is closed on Friday, June

Dear Parents,
This has been a very busy week for our parents, faculty
and students. Again, thank you to all the parents who took part in contributing to The
Faculty Luncheon. This is a wonderful tradition and the faculty and
staff really appreciate it. The 4th, 6th
and 8th Graders and their teachers can now breathe a sigh of relief. The New
York State Exams for ELA and Math are now finished. Good Job!
Today, our Pre-K, Kindergarten and 1st Graders enjoyed
a tea with their moms for Mother's Day. It was such a hit that I think we have just started another great tradition at Transfiguration School. Congratulations to our 2nd Grade class and their parents, as they prepare
for First Holy Communion
tomorrow.
CAP TAX - The
Governor has proposed a new round of cuts to the budget and CAP is on the chopping block. This proposal would
cut CAP by 50% to our school. Please call your legislator to stop
this new round of cuts. The state already owes our Catholic
Schools over $237 million dollars in back funding,
and now they want to cut more money from our school's budget. How much more do our parents need to shoulder the
burden when most of your tax dollars are already used to fund the public school system? Please act immediately
on this and call, email and fax your local state legislators as well as Governor
Paterson. These cuts must be stopped.
Family Mass - Sunday, May 9th - The 2nd Grade will also do the Family Mass on Sunday at 10:00 a.m.
Please come join in this celebration.
Spring Fundraiser - On Saturday, April 24th, we had a wonderful
turn out for our annual Spring Fundraiser. I truly appreciate all the hard work the parents involved did to make this night
a success. The success of this night, along with earlier fundraisers supports the school budget. Thank you, again
for your continued support.
School Video - The Transfiguration School video is now on the schools website at www.transfigurationschool.org. Copies of the DVD are available in limited supply for $15.00. Please contact the school office.
Rosary Garden - On Sunday, May 16th our Second and Eighth Graders will be making a Rosary Garden at 2:00 p.m. All are invited to come
and watch the botanical feat.

Facing the Catholic-school challenge

The time for "business
as usual" for our Catholic schools is over.
We
all know what Catholic schools have meant, and continue to mean, both here in New York and elsewhere. Everywhere I go, everybody
I meet has words
of praise for our schools. But if Catholic schools are to remain strong, available, affordable and accessible, we need a new approach.
You
are probably well aware of the history. For more than 200 years, the Archdiocese of New York
has ensured that a rigorous, high-quality Catholic education is available to every child who seeks it.
Today, the Archdiocese educates more than
83,000 children in 279 schools in
the boroughs of Manhattan, the Bronx and Staten
Island, and seven counties north of the city.
Of these students, about 35,500 attend one of our inner-city schools in New York
City -- nearly
35 percent of whom are non-Catholic,
94 percent are minority and more than two-thirds live near or below the federal poverty level.
Our students are extraordinary achievers
-- more than 98 percent of our seniors
graduate, and an impressive 96 percent of our graduates pursue post-secondary education.
In addition to providing a superior education, our schools provide significant savings to taxpayers
-- it is estimated that Catholic schools in New York State, which together educate some 209,000 children, save taxpayers more than $3.6
billion a year.
Despite
such success, Catholic schools across the nation, and especially in the inner cities, are facing serious challenges, including
declining student
enrollment (often due to shifting demographics) and escalating costs.
Instead of standing idly by and waiting for these challenges
to permanently
weaken our schools, we have embarked on a rigorous strategic planning initiative for the schools of the Archdiocese.
Our strategic plan,
"Pathways to Excellence," which will be released soon, is designed to assist elementary schools throughout the Archdiocese. It calls for
a number of important internal enhancements, such as innovative programs to attract dynamic new leaders as well as systemic changes in our governance
and financial models.
As
the plan begins to take hold, it is likely that some schools may merge and some may close -- and, Please God, new schools will open,
as well.
Know
that the difficult and painful decisions of this sort will never be made lightly, as we are all very aware that school closings have
a profound
impact on the students and their families. Such decisions will only be made after long and careful consideration, with plenty of opportunity for input and
discussion by all who have an interest in that school.
Part of the genius of Catholic schools is the involvement of the entire local community -- parents,
parishioners, pastors, principals, teachers, benefactors and civic leaders -- in the life of a school. We recognize that all of these stakeholders
must be involved in any decision to merge, close
or open a school.
While
I don't know what local decisions will eventually emerge as a result of this process, one thing I can guarantee is that there will
always be a desk
and a chair in a Catholic school for any child who seeks one.
We recognize that the prospect of change
and transition can lead to anxiety
for many. But we believe that "Pathways to Excellence" will ensure that strong Catholic schools continue to exist for generations to come.

New York is proud of the role that Catholic schools have played, and continue to play, in our city and our country, helping millions of children from
all walks of life, including immigrants, and providing
them with an equal opportunity to share in the American dream of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
Countless families have come
to our schools over the years to help develop their children's characters, and to instill a love of learning, in a climate of faith. We honor
that trust, and remain committed to maintaining the standard of excellence that has made Catholic schools such an integral and beloved pillar of the
infrastructure of New York.

Summer Uniforms - Starting Monday,
May 3rd, student's can begin wearing summer uniforms. Please keep in mind that belts are required
with the khaki shorts. Also, I recommend that you check out the schools Clothesline, which is located next to the Religious
Education office for any needed items.
New York State Math Exam - Grades 4th,
6th, & 8th will be taking the New York State Math Exam on Wednesday May 5th -
May 7th. I remind parents of these students to ensure they arrive to school on time. These
exams are administered during the first period of school.
Teacher Appreciation Luncheon
- Thank you to all the parents who put so much time and effort into this wonderful event. This luncheon gives the Faculty
a chance to come together as a group which does not happen very often. The Faculty truly appreciates this treat.
Parents' Guild Meeting - The date of the next Parents' Guild meeting has been changed
to Tuesday, May 18th at 7:30 p.m. in the school cafeteria. I encourage all parents to attend this
meeting. There will be many important items on the agenda. I will review the changes in the New York State Essential
for Learning for Social Studies for Pre-K - 8th, Father Lucian will address the parents on the importance
of the Parents' Guild, and we will vote in the new Executive Board. I would like to take this opportunity
to personally thank Eileen Kyriacou, Eileen Wiseman, Chris Gullotta, Erika Stroligo, Cristina Sullivan,
Trisha Hagstrom, Tina Malone and Maureen Natkin for all their dedication and many hours they committed to serving as
board members of the Parents' Guild this year.
Congratulations to our Alumni
- Some of our former graduates have been inducted into the National Honor Society and Junior
Honor Society in their high schools. I would like to congratulate them and their families and relay how proud the
faculty and staff of Transfiguration are for their continued strong academic performance. Congratulations to: Laura
Balthazard, Laura Calisi and Ariana Quinones who are Sophomores at Our Lady of Victory Academy attaining
National Honor Society. Megan Woods, a Junior at Our Lady of Victory Academy inducted into the Italian
Honor Society as well as the Alpha Honor Society. Amanda Ungco and Gabriella Biagini, Juniors at The
Ursuline School inducted into the National
Junior Honor Society. Reminder to 8th Grade Parents - The
8th Grade field trip is scheduled for May 26th. The final installment payment
for the trip and Graduation fee is due May 20th. If your child is not going to attend this
trip, please let the school office know as soon as possible.

few tidbits to let you know about.
Enrichment Program - Our next session of Enrichment
Programs will begin on Monday, April
19th and run for 7 weeks. There is still room in some of the classes being offered.
Please contact Mrs. Fortinash c/o Helena - 3rd Grade if you need more information or would like to join a class.
Math-A-Thon - Thank you to all our families who participated in the St. Jude Children's Research
Hospital Math-A-Thon. As of today, Transfiguration School donated $5,559.32 to St. Jude. For more than 30 years,
this Math-A-Thon has successfully helped students improve their math skills and help raise millions of dollars in the fight
against childhood cancer and life-threatening diseases. Congratulations to our students for their hard work so we could
play a part in this wonderful organization. If you have not yet donated, and would like to make a donation, please send it
in to school by Monday, April 19th.
Banner Day for 2nd Grade Students - Saturday, April 17th from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. in the Church Hall.
Students will begin working on their banners for First Holy Communion.
Flynn & O'Hara
Uniform Company - Will be at Transfiguration on Thursday, April 22nd from 8:30 a.m. -11:00 a.m. - Forms
will go home next week for new orders. I recommend that before you order, you should check out the Parents'
Guild Clothesline located downstairs near the Religious Ed. Office. This might be
a good time to go through your uniforms and donate any uniforms that don't fit and look for a replacement in the Clothesline.
There are no prices listed for the uniforms, there is, however, a donation box. Donations from the clothesline go to
St. Joseph The Worker School in Soyapango, El Salvador.
Summer Uniforms
- Students can begin wearing the summer uniform for both the regular uniform and the gym uniform starting MAY 3rd until the close
of school.

Parents,
Welcome Back!!! I hope you had a wonderful Easter Vacation and took advantage of our beautiful weather.
SPRING FUNDRAISER VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!!!!! The Spring
Fundraiser is less than two weeks away and it is important that we tie up some loose ends
to make the evening as successful as possible. I am asking that anyone and everyone that can volunteer to take on a
task. Second Grade and Sixth Grade parents have the responsibility for the desserts and the food, respectively.
Please let your class parents know what and how much you can do. Homemade baked goods are the best and the Sixth Grade
has a budget of $400 for food. In addition, we will need at least two parents from each of these grades for clean up
after the event. I would appreciate it if class parents could please follow up on this. During the event, we will
also need a few volunteers to sell 50/50 tickets and some to monitor and collect the silent auction bid sheets at the end
of the auction. These are both very simple tasks and easy to take on. By working together we can assure a successful

PARENTS' GUILD MEETING - There
is a Parents' Guild Meeting scheduled for Wednesday, April 14th at 7:30 p.m. in the school
cafeteria. The agenda will include, Principal's Report on the 2010-2011 school budget, Parents' Guild Nominations
and Elections for 2010-2011. Drama Club update, $20,000 Raffle and Auction, Teacher Appreciate Luncheon and Field Day.
Please make every effort to attend this meeting.

- Nominations forms will go home tomorrow, April 13th. Please check your child's
backpack for this package and take a few minutes to look over the descriptions. Forms are due back no later than April
27th. Please consider running for one of the open board positions.

Parents - Just a reminder that the second installment of the 8th Grade Graduation
Fee and Field Trip money is due on April 20th. If you need more information on this, please
let Mrs. Coughlin know as soon as possible.

Confirmation
- Congratulations to our 8th Grade class who will be receiving the sacrament
of Confirmation on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. The class has met all their obligations
in order to receive the sacrament, and continues to donate their efforts with community service to the church and our school
community.
Catholic School Honor Band - The
following students have been selected and are participating in the 2010 Lower Hudson Valley Catholic School
Honor Band Concert. The concert will be held on Sunday, March 21st at 3:00 p.m. at Kennedy Catholic High School in Somers, NY. These students
represent the "best of the best" musicians from our area schools. They have rehearsed for over 12 hours to
perform an amazing concert. All school families are invited to attend this wonderful concert this Sunday. Margaret

St. Jude Math-A-Thon
- Thank you for permitting your child to participate in the St. Jude Math-A-Thon. The Funbooks and sponsor forms
were distributed to your child today. Your son or daughter will have about two weeks to complete the math problems and
collect the pledges. Parents (or students) may check the answers by using the answer key in the back of the book. The projected date of returns for all donations is Wednesday, March 31st.
Remember that all checks should be made out to: St. Jude Hospital.
Again, thank you for your cooperation and generosity.
NCAA Basketball
Fundraiser - Save the date, Monday, April 5th at 8:00 p.m. in the school gym. Come support the basketball
program while watching the NCAA championship game with parents, coaches and friends.
Only 250 tickets will be sold at $25.00 each and winner need not be present. Contact Terry McGlynn at 332-4012
to reserve a ticket. Tickets are also available in the school office.
Reminders -
I want to remind parents that students are not permitted to play behind the trees or in any snow while on school property,
as well as prohibited from throwing rocks and sticks. These rules are adhered to during school hours and must be followed
as long as the student is on the school property. This is for their safety and I request that parents be mindful of this at

Patrick's Day Parade - Again, thank you to our Parade Committee. If you are planning
on Marching with our committee, they will be lining up, this Saturday, on John Street,
which is off of Main Street in Tarrytown at 1 pm. In the event of heavy rains, please check the school website at
www.transfigurationschool.org by 12:15 pm to see if you will be participating.
7th Grade Family Mass Planning - There will be a planning meeting for the 7th Grade
Family Mass at 7pm on Monday, March
15th.
School Closed - Friday, March 19th and Friday, March 26th.
The faculty will use both these days as curriculum mapping days.
Public Schools of the
Tarrytowns - School Budget Hearing & Work Session - The Board of Education for the Public Schools of
the Tarrytowns will be conducting a budget hearing and work session on March 18th at 8 pm for the purpose of seeking community input, regarding
the budget that is being developed for presentation to the voters in May. Some of the issues to be discussed are; administration,
transportation and supplementary programs and services. These topics will affect some parents of Transfiguration School,
so I encourage Tarrytown residents to make an effort to attend some of these meetings. April 15th - Budget Adoption - May 6th - Budget Hearing
May 18th - Budget Vote.
Westchester County Budget Hearings - The
Westchester Delegation is holding a public haring to examine the impact of the Governor's
proposed budget. I would like to invite you to attend this hearing to voice your comments and concerns on the issues
of greatest importance to you in this year's budget process; specifically the MTA Payroll
Tax and the Mandated Services Bill. This is a great opportunity to address all the
Westchester Senators. The hearing will be held on Friday, March 19th from 9:30 am - 12:30 pm at the Greenburgh
Town Hall in Greenburgh. I would appreciate it parents could make an effort to attend this meeting.
School Choir at 10 am Mass on Palm
Sunday - The members of the school choir have once again been invited to sing with the our parish choir
at the 10 am Mass on Palm Sunday. This is an opportunity for us to contribute to our parish and showcase
the talents of our students. Please encourage your child to participate. Consent forms
went home this week. Please return them as soon as possible.
Sports Award Night -
Is scheduled for Monday, March 29th
at 7 pm. We invite all our basketball players and parents to attend this event.
NCAA Fundraiser- Mark your calendar for Monday, April 5th at 8 pm for the
NCAA Fundraiser. It's alot of fun for everyone to get together plus it really helps the basketball program be self

St. Patrick's Day Parade
- A letter has gone home from the St. Patrick's Day parade committee for this years' parade, which will be held in
Tarrytown/ Sleepy Hollow on March
14th at 1:30 PM. If you are able to participate, please send in the form to the school office
as soon as possible. The committee will notify you when we get our instructions of where to line up. It is usually
on Johns Street at 1 o'clock. Again, if you need another copy of this letter and information sheet, please go to
the school website. I would like to send a sincere and heartfelt thank you to the newly formed Transfiguration Parade
Committee, particularly Lee Anne Sullivan, Jennifer Tucci, Chris and Susan Vacca, Stephanie and Patrick Grimes and Eileen Kyriacou.
On behalf of the faculty, staff and myself, we send you a big hug for stepping up and helping the school preserve the opportunity
for students and families to march together as a community. You should know that it was a difficult, but unavoidable

SNOW

Penny War - Thank you for helping with the Penny War for the Elizabeth Seton Pediatric
Center. The 6th Grade had the most pennies and we collected a total of $663.00. I cannot show my face at the TD Bank on Central Avenue for awhile!

Dear Parents,
What a great celebration of Catholic Schools Week! We started
off on Sunday with the faculty preparing breakfast for our students and parents. I can speak for the entire
faculty when I say that we truly enjoyed this event. As the week progressed, on Tuesday, we held our Open
House. Many prospective families came through the school to witness us in action. Wednesday,
we started slow with a snow delay, but picked it up by celebrating acheiving our Innisbrook Wrapping Paper goal by taping
Mrs. Morley to the gym wall and commencing with our 1st Annual Pig Race. The 3 top selling classes
were 1st Grade with their pig named Pinkalicious, 3rd with Bacon, and Penelope
representing the 6th grade. It was a close race, but video tape clearly showed Pinkalicious winning it all!
We had quite a few parents come on Parents Visiting Day on Thursday, as well as join
us for our traditional feast. I want to congratulate all the class parents for ensuring that Heritage
Day was a success for each class. Today we are ending our celebrating with a Green and Gold
Dress Down Day and prayer partner Penny Bingo this afternoon. All proceeds from the Penny
Bingo will go to the Elizabeth Seton Pediatric Center. This week is not only a celebration of their
great school and hard work for the students, but also for you parents for choosing Catholic education for your child.
It is truly an investment into their futures, which will pay "Dividends for Life" and we appreciate you letting
us educate your child at Transfiguration School.
Report Cards - Will be coming
home today. Please review these with your child and return the signed envelope.
5th Grade Family
Mass - On Sunday, February 7th at 10:00 a.m. I encourage families
to attend. This Mass will be followed by a Ministry Fair held in the Church
Hall. This fair is a great opportunity to see the many ministries that Transfiguration Parish has and how you
can get involved in these ministries.

Dear Parents,
Catholic Schools Week – Get ready for many exciting events next week. Mass on Sunday at 10:00 AM will begin the week, followed by breakfast. At last count,
reservations are closed and the tables are full. Monday begins
the Penny Wars between the grades. The class with the most pennies at the end of the week
will earn a dress down day. All pennies will go toward the Elizabeth Seton Pediatric Center.
Tuesday is our Open
House for new families. I still need a few people to help with giving tours. Please call the office
if you can help out between 9 and 11 AM. Wednesday
we will start the day with Mass and throat blessing for the Feast of St. Blaise. The students
will then witness Mrs. Morley being suspended and taped to the gym wall. Before lunch, the top
three classes (1, 3, and 6) who brought in the highest sales for the wrapping paper fundraiser will race their pigs for a
chance to win a Pizza lunch for their class. After lunch, our traditional Foul Shooting Contest
will occur with more prizes given to the top shooter per grade. Since we will be attending Mass in the
morning, all students in all grades should come to school wearing the complete gym uniform, regardless of whether
they are scheduled for gym that day. I want everyone to look uniform for Mass and be ready for
the activities of the day. Thursday is
Parent Visiting Day, beginning at 11:40.
Come hungry because this will be followed by Heritage Day! Friday is Green and Gold Dress Down Day, Penny Bingo
with Prayer Partners, the results of the Penny War and a special surprise from
me! Our thankfulness for Catholic Schools, namely Transfiguration,
is only outdone by the size of our celebrating during Catholic Schools Week! Thank you to all our parents

– Please check your child’s back pack for a very important letter from the Guild.
This letter explains the recently presented Drama Club and asks the general membership whether or not you agree that
the Guild should use money in the cultural budget to cover the production costs of the club. Your
vote is important so be sure to check off your ballot and send the form back to school as soon as possible. Legislator Forum – Last night’s Legislator forum was well
done. The Westchester/Putnam area was represented by six elected officials, including Senators Klein, Oppenheimer,
and Stewart-Cousins and Assemblymen Spano, Ball, and Latimer. The good news is that these legislators are
on our side and rejected the Governor’s proposed mid-year cuts to Catholic school reimbursement.
In addition, State Senators Suzi Oppenheimer and Jeff Klein, along with Assembly members Mike Spano, George Latimer, and Greg Ball are co-sponsoring legislation
to restore the Mandated Services Reimbursement program after the state’s liability to reimburse our schools was cut
by 8 percent in 2008 – worth $11 million. Moreover, they have introduced legislation to reimburse
Catholic schools for the cost of the new Metropolitan Transportation Tax. Introducing a bill and have it passed are two distinct events. A
lot of work and effort on our part to make our concerns heard still needs to occur to keep these issues at the top of the
pile. This is a tough year and we must not give up. Join the Catholic
Advocacy Network to urge the Governor and legislators to fully reimburse our schools for the money that is

Legislator
Forum/Parent Rally - On January
28 there will be a second Legislator Forum at Stepinac High School at 7:00 p.m. I am still in need of 4 more adults and 2 students to come represent
Transfiguration School. If you are available, please let me know. The bus leaves Transfiguration School parking
lot at 6:30 p.m. and we should return no later than 8:30 p.m.
Parking Lot Reminder - For the safety of the students
as well as maintaining a continuing flow of traffic in the parking lot, no one other than buses and teachers should drive
down the first row/aisle of the parking lot. Two bus companies have recently called expressing concerns regarding cars
left idling in the first row while parent and children run into the building as well as cars coming down the first row
and backing into spots. The buses are having a difficult time exiting the parking lot therefore creating a safety issue.
Please be mindful of where you park.

Breakfast - Sunday, January 31st
- Who wants their teacher to cook them breakfast??????? Reservation forms went home for the school Communion
Breakfast. In celebration of Catholic Schools Week the faculty will kick off the week
with a breakfast for you. Before we eat let's all come together to celebrate Mass at 10:00 a.m. and celebrate as
a community. If your child is in the school choir, please encourage them to come and sing at this Mass and be
my guest for breakfast. Reservations for breakfast are a must, we fill up quickly.....
Open
House - There is no better advertisement than word-of-mouth from our parent population. Please spread the
word about our fabulous school and let your neighbors know that registration for the fall 2010 school year is now open.
In addition to our PK - 8 program, don't forget to mention our "Almost 4" program as well as our After School
Care Program which runs until 6:00 p.m. and our Enrichment Programs. If any parents are available on February 2nd from 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m, I could use some
help speaking to prospective families and giving tours of the school. If you are available, please let me know.
SCRIP - Order forms will be coming home today. The due date for ordering is Monday, February 1st. Valentine's

Dear Parents, Happy New Year and welcome back! Within the next few weeks
several important events will be taking place. I would like to ask for your help to make these as successful as possible.
Legislator Forum/Parent Rally - On January 28 we will be holding the second legislator forum at Stepinac High School at 7 p.m. All schools must be represented
with at least 10 parents and a handful of students (to carry the school banner). Please let me know right away who can
attend with me. I am hoping that the Parents' Guild will help to cover the cost for a mini-bus like last year since
parking is a problem. This is a vital event that gets our message directly to the legislators. Last year it helped
to minimize the cut to Mandated Services.
The Elizabeth
Seton Pediatric Center - Within the
next two years there will be a new Catholic
school in the Westchester/Putnam area. The Elizabeth Seton Pediatric Center will be relocating to Yonkers and
the John A. Coleman School will service the children confined to this institution. The Seton Pediatric Center works
with young people who are the "sickest of the sick" and the Poorest of the poor". In this hospital, the
136 bends are always full and 15% of the children NEVER see a visitor. They are the only pediatric
ventilator support center in the entire state of New York.
We have been asked by the Superintendent to become
part of the service to the poor by joining in their "Let Us Build a House" campaign. The plan is that during
Catholic
Schools Week, each school would conduct a "Penny War" to collect money for the center. We will be doing
that as well as donating the money from Penny Bingo on Friday of Catholic Schools Week to the pediatric center. What a fitting way to exemplify the theme
for Catholic Schools Week of "Catholic Schools: Dividends for Life".
Open

I ask that you start spreading the word and send your neighbors and friends to it. I will greatly appreciate it.

Dear Parents,
Thursday night’s performance was great! I am glad that you were
able to witness the abundance of talent that we have in our school. Thank you all for your wonderful compliments. I
will pass them along to the students who were the stars of the concert. I am so glad that we were able to put Christmas
in perspective. It is amazing how every year we do the same thing… shop, shop, shop, and shop! We agonize
over whether what we buy will be liked by the person receiving it. We are exhausted physically, from all the running
around, mentally, from all the worries, and financially from all the spending. We get so crazed that we don’t
realize there are special “priceless” gifts that we can give to others that will last a lifetime. Last night
was one of those priceless moments. A wise friend once gave me some other priceless gifts and I am passing them on to
you. Give the: Gift of Understanding: Teach others that by understanding one another we
become better people because there is no room for arguments. Gift of Compassion: Teach
others that when you care you show others that they mean something to you. Gift of Joy: Teach
others that laughter is good for the soul. Gift of Peace: Teach others that living in harmony
is the right way because there is no room for hatred and finally… Gift of Love: Teach others that through loving we grow and
act like our Lord. What a better way to welcome the New Born Christ! These are
my gifts to you. If we can pass these on to the people we know imagine what a world it would be. May your Christmas
be filled with the laughter and cheer of family and friends and may the New Year bring you all that is good.

Wreath, Book Fair - Again, our committee chairs were prepared and our parent volunteers were out in full force.
This wonderful event could not have gone any smoother than it did. Mr. & Mrs. Agro did a great job,, along with
their volunteers of parents and students to set up and display our beautiful trees. Mrs. Boccabella and Mrs. Stroligo
had a wonderful response to the pre-ordered wreaths, garland and kiss balls and sold an additional few to parishioners.
As usual, our 5 day Scholastic Book Fair had something for everyone, thanks to Mrs. Doyle and Mrs. Sullivan. The students
loved the selection of books offered. The dedication to this fundraiser from the Parents' Guild, as well as the
committee chairs was outstanding. Please note all this work does not go unnoticed by the faculty and staff. We truly
appreciate all you do for Transfiguration. St. Nicholas - On Monday,
while the students were working on Math, Science, Reading and Religion, St. Nicholas came and left a gift in the shoes of
our Pre-K, Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd,
and 3rd Grade students. What a great surprise and celebration of the feast day of St. Nicholas. Basketball
- Our basketball season has started!!!! the schedules of games are listed on the school website. We invite all our students

starts at 4:45 p.m. End of Year Charitable Donations - Christmas
is around the corner and the end of the year is upon us. If it has been a good year for you, and you are looking for
tax deductible donations, please keep Transfiguration School in mind. This year we are
hoping to raise $50,000 from our Annual Appeal, which will bridge the gap between tuition and the actual cost to educate a
student at the school. The generosity of donors in the past two years has enabled the school to keep tuition increases
to a minimum. The school also has two scholarship funds to which you can specify your donation; The Mary
Margaret Henshaw Scholarship Fund and The Muriel Plunkett Family Scholarship Fund. These funds are the school's
insurance policy for the future, and the students and families they will assist will certainly enable them to benefit from
a Transfiguration education. For those of you who work in companies with matching funds, Transfiguration School
does qualify for matched funds and we will happily fill out whatever paperwork is needed to make this happen. All charitable
gifts will be acknowledged by my sincere and deepest gratitude on behalf of the entire staff and faculty, and a letter
for income tax reporting will be provided. Please give prayerful thought to supporting one of these efforts, if you
can. IRIS - This week the school sent out a morning call to announce a two hour delay on
Wednesday, December 9th. This call was routed to go to your email and home telephone. If the call did not
reach your home telephone, please contact the office so that we can make sure that the number in the system is the correct
one. Stop and Shop A+ Bonus Bucks - Since October, there are 85 Stop and Shop cards registered
for the program, out of a possible 153 and the school has earned $302. Please consider registering your rewards card
so that each time you grocery shop, the school will earn money. In addition, the school can earn extra bonus dollars
on products throughout the store that are specially marked. I just earned 100 extra points for purchasing Pop Tarts
and Nutragrain Bars; two of my children's favorites. Transfiguration School Telecommunications Policy
- In recent weeks, I have received several complaints about students' use of social networking sites like aim, facebook,
and myspace that contain posts demeaning another student, or are vulgar and inappropriate. Please keep in mind that
any communication via the internet, or in a text message leaves a footprint that can be traced, easily and used as proof.
In addition, you should be aware of the Telecommunications Policy in place that
expects students to follow the same standards at home when using the internet or their cell phones, as stated
in the Discipline Code of Conduct and Harassment Policies of the Parent/Student Handbook. The use of the
Internet and cell phones are a privilege; not a right, and inappropriate use, or violation of any of the school standards,
whether in school or at home, can result in serious consequences and could result in expulsion from the school. It is
up to you, the parents, to insure that your child's communications are safe, appropriate, and meet the standards of the

Parents, SCRIP order – there will be one last order before Christmas. Forms
were sent home on Tuesday. Please
consider helping the school by ordering gift cards to be used as gifts or as cash to buy gifts in the stores or online. The
face value on the cards is the exact amount of purchase but SCRIP gives back to the school an average of 4% of the value.
Tree Sale and Book Fair – Saturday will be a great day to be at Transfiguration. Come
buy your Christmas tree and shop at the Book Fair. At the same time, the Religious Education School
is hosting a Family Day in the Church
Hall. And, for the sports fans there will be plenty of basketball games to watch. There will be something for everyone.
Please remember that if you pre-ordered your wreaths, they will be available for pick up on Saturday.
Hat & Mitten Tree
- Again, this year we will collect new Hats & Mittens for our tree in the school lobby. These Hats and Mittens will
be donated on December 21st to the
Mercy Center for distribution. Thank you for your support to this great cause.
3rd Grade Family
Mass - Sunday, December 6th at 10:00 a.m. Please come join in our celebration of St. Nicholas.
4th Grade Family Mass Planning - There will be a 4th Grade planning meeting for the Family
Mass on Monday, December 7th at 7:00 p.m.
in the Parish Center. If your family would like to participate in this mass, please plan on attending this
meeting.
MIDNIGHT RUN - 12/11 - We will have another Midnight
Run on Friday, December 11th.
As usual we are asking that on Friday,
each child bring a "MIdnight Run meal" to school with them for collection. Congratulations to our 8th Graders
who completed the Midnight Run Coat Collection. On Sunday they hand delivered all the coats that were donated and participated in a breakfast run in New York City.
Just a Reminder - Although we have
limited the cases of head lice to
a minimum, the life cycle of the louse is not yet completed. We ask that you please check your child each day up until
the Christmas break for any signs. The louse glues its tiny white eggs (nits) onto the hair near the roots. Generally,
nits are found in the hair behind the ears and at the nape of the neck. However, they may occur anywhere on the head.
Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.
Legislative Forum – Save the date – January 28, 2009. That is the date set for the political forum at Archbishop Stepinac High School. Governor
Patterson has proposed a 10% cut from both Mandated Services and Comprehensive Attendance Program. He is only proposing
a 4.5% cut in public school aid. We all realize that the state has no money but we must
fight to be treated equitably. In addition, the state owes back monies to private schools in the amount of 23 million
dollars. Cuts in funding will adversely impact our schools. Let us show our elected officials where we stand.
ITBS Test Results – Some time before we break for the Christmas holiday,
you will receive the ITBS test results for your child(ren). Please keep in mind that
this was an October administration using new 2005 scoring norms. The numbers represent percentiles. Anything that
is 50 or above means that the student is working at grade level or above. The test is designed to be a diagnostic tool
to pinpoint strengths and weaknesses. By the time you receive the test results, the teachers and I will have met to determine
the best course of action for each student.
While we are on the topic of assessments,
let me give you an idea of how we use assessment results from the ITBS and other tests. The faculty and I systematically use
assessment data in various ways to gauge and improve student performance and to improve teaching and learning. The first
step in the process is regular communication among the faculty and me. Every student at Transfiguration has a binder
that follows them from grade to grade, which provides teachers with an overview of each student’s entire history with
regard to standardized testing. Using
these results, we work together to not only identify students who require remediation, but also to discover strengths and
deficits in the school’s curriculum. This process ultimately impacts long term curriculum planning, planning for
remediation and enrichment, and planning to meet the diverse needs of the student body.
One
example of how assessment data impacts teaching strategies and programming occurred in 2004 after the school received student
ITBS results. Although the school as a whole scored better than expected, the teachers noticed that several students
were not skilled in making reasonable decisions when solving problems in math. As a result, the faculty and I implemented
a school-wide improvement plan with the goal of addressing problem-solving, and by 2007 scores
in this area improved school-wide by four percentage points.
As a whole, faculty
meetings routinely include curriculum review and discussion about refocusing aspects of the curriculum. In recent years,
the school has highlighted reading comprehension
and writing, working to revise the curriculum in ways that take advantage of the reciprocal nature of reading and writing.
Calendar correction - Tuesday, December 8 is the Feast of the Immaculate Conception and a holy
day of obligation. The school will be attending the 9:00 a.m. Mass on Tuesday. The school will not attend Mass
on Friday, December 11.
IRIS - It is taking a bit to get used to the new system so a few
more tests will be tried, hopefully before the first snowfall! Here are some tips to help:
- When IRIS send a text-to-speech telephone message the school’s telephone number will appear
in your caller ID box. - There
will be a delay before anyone speaks and then it will say something about a message from the IRIS system.
- The message will play and then it will repeat. - At
the end of the message it will say something about pressing 1 to indicate that you have received the message. This
is so that the system can track that the message was received successfully. It is
like a delivery receipt from the post office.
- When the body of the message, sent by me, says “you do not need to respond to this message”,
it means do not telephone the office.
- We realize that there will be situations when you cannot pick up the phone at the moment an IRIS message
comes in (driving, in a meeting, in the shower, etc.), let the call go to voicemail
or your message machine and play it back when you are able. Again, please
do not simply call the school and ask why we called. - For
a snow delay or closing, I will use a “yellow alert”. This means that you will receive an email and a telephone
call on your home telephone. For school related business that can wait until you
get home from work, we will use a “yellow alert”too.
- For a closing during the day, I will use an “orange alert”. This means that you
will receive an email, a telephone call to your home, and a telephone call to your
cell phone because we need to find you. - In an extreme emergency,
I will use a “red alert” which will go to your home, email, cell, and work numbers.

Dear Parents,
It's beginning
to smell like Thanksgiving at Transfiguration School, thanks to our Pre-K, Kindergarten and 1st Grade classes and their teachers. These classes gave
us a wonderful show and songs about Thanksgiving. Thank you to all the parents who volunteered to make this event special.
This is a wonderful tradition that makes for some life long memories.
IRIS Testing - I
will be testing the IRIS System on Monday, November 23rd. This is the system we will use if we have a school closing or delayed opening due to inclement weather.
You will receive a phone call on your home phone number as well as an email for this test. In the event of a closing
or delay due to weather, please keep in mind, that if the Public Schools of the Tarrytowns are closed to inclement weather,
Transfiguration School will be closed. We also list this information on Channel 12 and WFAS radio.
St.
Cecelia's Feast Day - On Sunday, our school choir and band members united with the Transfiguration
Parish Choir in celebration of St. Cecelia's Feast Day. As Mr. Keogh clearly pointed out in his remarks at the end
of Mass, Transfiguration School is very blessed to have such a great music and band program. I would like to thank Mrs.
Plunkett and Mr. Keogh who coordinated this event as well as, Mrs. O'Loughlin and Ms. Deltoro for preparing the students
in the band and our choir members to participate in this Mass.
St. Vincent de Paul Food Drive - On Friday, November 20th, during
the 9:00 a.m. Mass,
the students presented some of the many food items that was collected during our food drive. I am very grateful for
all the donations each class presented. They will go directly to the families in our community in need of them during
this holiday season. Thank you all so much for your donations. Loose
Change Project - As in the past Advent seasons, Transfiguration School
will participate in the Loose Change project for the children in St. Joseph the Worker in
Soyapango, El Salvador, our twinning parish. Students are asked to label a container and deposit any loose
change during Advent. When the students return from Christmas vacation during the week of January 4th, they can bring in their containers of loose change
into school.
Calendar Raffle Tickets - Please continue to keep selling your raffle
tickets. Over the Thanksgiving holiday might be a good time to sell to family and friends. Anyone can buy a calendar
raffle and there are so many chances to win.
CAP - Transfiguration School is blessed to
be one of more than 300 schools, across seven Archdioceses, participating in the Catholic Alumni Partnership (CAP).
CAP is a groundbreaking program enabling us to reconnect with and re-engage our alumni for ongoing support. In the Archdiocese of New York, we are one of 51 schools participating in a pilot program. I have
been working closely with CAP staff to identify our alumni and create opportunities for those individuals to become active
members of our school community.
CAP is a new, privately funded initiative to support Catholic
elementary schools by implementing strong, sustainable annual fundraising programs for each participating school, with
alumni support as the foundation. Funds raised through this initiative will directly benefit Transfiguration School,
to help us continue to provide your children, and future generations, with a high quality
Catholic education.
We are appreciative of this new and innovative opportunity to help Transfiguration School meet
the increasing financial demands that we encounter. I am confident that graduates will embrace the Transfiguration School
community that provided a foundation of life success for them. They will be helping to ensure that foundation will be
present for other young people.

- We will be placing another scrip order on
December 6th, Order forms will come home next week. These cards will be delivered in plenty of time for
Christmas. These are great gift ideas.
Tree, Wreath, Book Sale - Our annual Book
Fair will run from December 2nd - December 6th. Our Tree Sale is on Saturday, December 5th. Order forms for the Wreaths, Kissing Balls and Fraser Fir Roping
was sent home to pre-order, it you need another order form, please call the school office. The weekend of these sales
is one of our oldest traditions. Many alumni still come to buy their Christmas tree
at Transfiguration. I encourage all families to come and look at the book fair or watch a basketball game in the gym.
It is wonderful events like these that bring our school community together.

Dear Parents, Saturday night's Gala was a wonderful event.
I want to thank each of the Parents' Guild Board of Directors members for putting together such a spectacular evening.
Everyone who was in attendance had a great time. I have received so many compliments on the decor, the venue, the food,
and the young alums who volunteered and came back to help serve at this event. For those of you not in attendance, the
church
hall was transformed into an exquisite wonderland thanks to the talents of Ria Sumitro and Monique Kozlowski who provided
the vinery from her own backyard. Chris Vacca filled the hall with great music and did a great job as our DJ.
An additional thank you goes to Michele Mauguin for organizing the journal and Mrs. Amato for working with the students for
the cover artwork. I am also grateful to our alumni guest speakers; Edward Tully, Kevin Plunkett and Norma Boccabella.
Their memories and thoughts about Transfiguration School really capped off the spirit of the 60 year celebration, but the
piece de resistance of the evening was having the opportunity to see the school's new video produced and edited by Manny
and Terry Fernandez. I cannot wait to show it to the students and all our school families. It is amazing and it
truly captures the wonderful spirit that is Transfiguration School. Was it a lot of work? Yes it was, but for all the
individuals who had a hand in planning, preparing, orchestrating , and cleaning-up, it was a job well worth it and well done.

Parent Information Night - We had a very successful Parent Information
Night on Tuesday night. Thank
you all who came out to listen to our guest speaker and thank you to the parents who stayed for the Parents' Guild meeting
afterward. It was great to see parents with young children there. I would be delighted to continue to bring in speakers
to talk on topics that are relevant and pertinent to our parents. Please let me know your thoughts and suggestions.
Parents' Guild Gala - Tomorrow night we will celebrate the 60 year anniversary of Transfiguration
School !!! I would like to thank the Parents' Guild Board and all the parents who organized this special event to ensure
that it will be a memorable evening. Your time and effort as well as dedication to Transfiguration School is truly appreciated.
Report Cards - Report Cards will be distributed today. Please return the envelope with
your signature and make note of the conference time and date set up with your child's teacher.
Prayers
and Best Wishes - Our eighth grade students completed their TACHS Exam today and our fifth
grade students will start the New York State Social Studies Exam on Monday, November 16 and Tuesday, November 17th. We keep them in our prayers to
do their best.
3rd Grade Family Mass Planning Meeting - Is scheduled for Monday, November
16th at 7:00 p.m. in the church hall. Students in the 3rd Grade who would like to participate in this mass should

Flu and Illness - Thank you all for your diligence in
keeping home sick children. There is nothing that will spread colds and flu's more than exposing sick children to
others. Remember that this year we are not operating under the assumption of "if" we get the flu but "when"
it will hit the building. In preparation, the school continues to disinfect the desk tops, doorknobs, etc. on a daily
basis and has been reminding everyone to wash their hands often and use hand sanitizers. Please review these principles
with your children and continue to keep sick children home.
MTA Communter Payroll Tax-
You have all received information from the Superintendents office regarding this tax which Transfiguration School will have
to pay. The public schools are being reimbursed but we are not!! You can do something about it as voting
citizens. Please call your Congressmen and State Assembly person and tell them how unfair it is. Your voice made
a difference last year when we were fighting not to have Mandated Services cut. Please make the telephone calls.

November 9th - First Reconciliation Parent Meeting

of language skill development and how to promote language and literacy skills at home with your child(ren). I encourage
all parents with students in Pre-K through 3rd Grade to attend this meeting. The Parents' Guild meeting will follow
immediately in the Cafeteria. The Parents' Guild has a full agenda for upcoming events, so please make
every effort to attend and support the Parents' Guild.
November 11th
- Veterans Day - School is Closed in observance of Veterans Day. In light of the current events, parents might take this opportunity to talk
to your children about this day and about the men and women who dedicate their lives so that we may live in peace as well
as, offering a pray for the victim's families.

TACHS Exam & Report Card Distribution - Letters will be coming home to schedule a day and time for parent/teacher
conferences during the week of November 16-20th. . Report Cards will be sent home on Friday, November 13th.
Our 8th Graders will be taking their Test for Admission into Catholic High Schools on Friday,
November 13th. Please keep them in your prayers.
November 14th - Annual
Fall Gala 7:00 PM Church Hall - It is not to late to sign up for this Dinner. We are celebrating
60 Years of Transfiguration School. See if you can get a group together and come celebrate with us on November 14th.

Midnight Run Coat Drive and Thanksgiving Food Drive - The coat drive will continue through
to November 13th and the Thanksgiving Food Drive will continue until November 20th. During this season of giving thanks, this
would be a good project to work on at home with your children, to donate a canned good and a blanket or coat to those less
fortunate.
Milk Program - We have noticed that students
in grades 2nd - 8th who are on our list to receive milk are not accepting it or drinking it when given. If you
paid for your child to get milk, please talk to them about this problem.

distributed sneaker reflectors and spoke to each grade about how to stay safe and make good decisions tomorrow night.

Sunday, November 1st - All Saints Day - In keeping with the teachings
of this Holy Day and to reinforce the lessons and activities presented by students regarding All Saints Day, I appeal to
parents to share directly in the mission of the Church with their children. The 10:00 a.m. Mass on Sunday is the 1st Grade Family Mass. Student athletes and

Dear Parents, Congratulations to our 1st - 8th Graders and the faculty who completed the ITBS/Cogat testing
this week. These tests will provide us a frame of reference for interpreting the growth of students in various subject
areas as well as, a comparison to other schools.
Help Needed - I am now beyond the
"Help Wanted" and deeply into the "Help Needed" mode! Please consider giving a couple of hours a
month to the Marketing Committee. Presently, I could use a hand with the school newsletter which goes out twice a year
(winter, spring). Help is needed with gathering newsworthy articles, writing them up, laying out the copy, and working
with having the newsletter printed and mailed. Please consider helping with this and other aspects of Marketing the
school.
Fall Gala - By now you have all received your invitations. I hope you will
attend this very important celebration for the school. The Gala is not a fundraiser. It is an opportunity for
school families to come together and have some fun. The journal however, is a very important fundraiser for scholarship
money. It is particularly important given the current economic situation. It would be a wonderful thing if the
school could offer some assistance to those families in need. Please help us build this fund by taking out a journal
ad to promote your business or to congratulate the school on its 60 years of providing academic excellence.
Blue Ribbon
- I am proud to announce that Transfiguration School has been invited again this year to apply for National Blue Ribbon School. This is indeed an honor
since only the top 10% schools in the nation, academically, are invited to apply for this distinction. Transfiguration
School is member of this academic echelon. While obtaining the distinction of being a Blue
Ribbon School would be a wonderful accomplishment, let us not diminish the school's primary accomplishment of achieving
test scores that put the school and
its students in the top 10% of students across the nation. In reality, only 19 schools nationwide will be selected to
receive Blue Ribbon but the invitation has been extended to us and there is definitely cause for celebration.
Passive Fundraisers - Please make a push with neighbors, friends, relatives, etc. to promote our
Box Tops for Education program and register Stop and Shop card with A+ Bonus Bucks. These are two simple ways of earning money for the school just by passing on the information to everyone you know and getting
them to participate along with you. Every so often, these organizations come up with special contests to earn additional
money. Currently, A+ Bonus Bucks has a "Principals Challenge" to earn an additional $1,000 for the school.
If you have any ideas about what my challenge could be, email the office. In the meantime, please support these two
programs.
SCRIP - I will be distributing the November SCRIP order from today. The
due date is November 6. Please
consider shopping this way. You can use these cards to purchase items in the stores or online. Get your Christmas
lists together and help the school at the same time.
350 Club - Please remember to send
in your $50 tax deductible donation for the 350 Club. This is such an important program
to help defray the cost of the fuel bill and there are so many opportunities to win back your donation! We need 350
members and we are so close. Please help the school.
8th Grade Community
Service Project - We are collecting new or gently used coats, hats, gloves, and blankets for adults.
All items will be donated to the Midnight run organization. A drop-off box will be located in the school lobby from
October 26 - November 13. **Also, they will be collecting extra Halloween candy during this time. There is a labeled
basket in the lobby.
Innisbrook Wrapping Paper - There
is still time to hand in your order for the Innisbrook fundraiser. You can still place your order until November 2nd. We need a few more orders so that we can
tape Mrs. Morley, our gym teacher, to the gym wall to celebrate. Let's sell!!!
Family
Mass - 1st Grade Family Mass will be on November 1st, All Saints Day. A blessing will be given to our basketball
players and coaches during this Mass. Please mark your calendar to come celebrate the Mass
with us.
Elmsford Animal Shelter - Items will still be accepted until Monday, October 26th.
Our 4th Grade would like to thank all those who have already donated to this cause.

Calendars - Tuesday, November
10th at 7:00 pm, we will have a Parent Information Night in the school library. Our guest speaker will be Gloria Lazar, M.S. M.Phil., CCC who is a
Speech and Language Pathologist Communication Specialist. Gloria will discuss, Developing Language & Literacy Skills.
She will teach you the importance of language skill development and how to promote language and literacy skills at home with
your child(ren). This seminar is most helpful for parents of children aged 3 through 6. Please bring a friend
and enjoy.

Dear Parents,
Lock Down Drill - According to our Crisis Management
Plan we conducted a lock down drill today. Your child might come home today and describe this drill to you. This drill,
along with our 12 fire drills, 1 evacuation, and 3 bus drills will be conducted over the course of the school year.
Progress Reports - will be coming home today, please take a few minutes to review your
child's report. This report gives a general idea of how your child is doing so far. The first quarter does
not end until November 6th, so as mentioned earlier, this is a early indicator. I would appreciate
it if you could please sign and return on Monday. Again, I recommend for parents with students in Grades 1st - 8th to continue to monitor your child's grades through the SIS system.
Cold
Weather - The cold weather is coming so please dress your children accordingly. We make every effort
to have the students go outside during recess if the temperature remains above 32 degrees and no snow is on the ground.
Also, all students must be in complete winter uniforms. If you need additional sweaters, I recommend you look at our
Clothes Line downstairs next to the Pre-K class room, or order one online
through Flynn & O'Hara.
Planning Meeting for Family Mass 1st Grade - October
19th at 7:00 p.m. in the Church Hall. This is a good introduction for 1st Graders
to experience their contribution to the Mass. If your child would like to participate in the Mass, they should
attend this meeting. The 1st Grade Family Mass will be held on November 1st - All Saints Day. If you have any

Box Tops - Please be on the look out for these on the products that you use. Snip them
and send them in to the office. We earn 10 cents for every box top, without any additional cost to us. It's
easy to do - "One Dime at a Time".
Basketball Players and Program Blessing - November
1st - at the Family Mass, Father Lucian will bless our basketball players and coaches before we begin the
season. All players, coaches and their families are encouraged to attend this mass.
Busing
- Students are not allowed to ride on buses other than the one that takes them to and from school. Bus Companies'
Insurance coverage does not carry over to another bus company. Therefore, they have been telling students that are not insured
on that bus that they are not allowed on. Some bus drivers are not looking at who gets on their bus, so students are getting
on different buses without any problems. In the last week, 3 bus companies have called to remind us to let parents know they
will not allow other students from other districts on their buses for insurance reasons. If you set up a playdate
with another student, you must provide the transportation.

Dear Parents,
Our special thanks to the Tarrytown
Fire Department for reviewing fire safety to all our students on Thursday. The fire department volunteers asked the students
to go home and talk to their parents regarding evacuation plans at home, so please take a
few minutes to talk to them regarding this important matter.
IRIS- Our first test of the IRIS system was
completed on Monday, October 5th between 10:00
a.m. and 11:00 a.m. You
should have received a telephone call to your home phone number as well as an email. I have received notes from families
who did not get a call or email. This system was updated to fix these changes. We will do a couple more tests
before we actually use the system for a real alert. You must answer your phone or listen to your voice messages. (The message system does have a delay, so please
be patient) Please do not just look at your caller ID and call the school. The office is flooded with calls asking
why we called. Listen to the message to avoid undue anxiety. The IRIS system along with a listing on WFAS
radio and Channel 12 News, will be the avenues we communicate school closings due to inclement weather. Please note, Transfiguration School follows the Tarrytown Public Schools with regard to school closing, due to weather.

Bonus Buck Stop & Shop Program - I would appreciate if everyone could register their Stop & Shop cards.
The school will earn money every time you make a purchase. It is easy; go to www.stopandshop.com/aplus, click to join the program, enter your 13 digit card number, select Transfiguration School and that is it. Everyone
can join. You do not have to have a child at the school.
Also, this is NOT in
competition with the Church's Stop & Shop Card purchases. The parish earns money
through the sale of the gift cards. You use the gift cards as money to pay for your purchases at the register.
The parish earns 4% on the cards you buy, the school earns money on the purchases you make (regardless of how you pay the
bill).
SCRIP - We had a good first effort for the October SCRIP order. You still have time to order
for November and December. Again, the deadline to order for November will be the 6th. I will have the cards by
the 10th of November. The deadline
for December is the 7th and the cards will be ready by the 11th of December. Please consider helping the
school and getting your holiday shopping started this way. You can either buy them and use as cash or give them as gifts.
ITBS Testing 10/13 - 10/16
- These are standardized test given to students in grades 1st - 8th. The make up dates are 10/19-10/23. It is important that students arrive to
school on time. Student's should come prepared with no. 2 pencils and have plenty of rest.

Guild Meeting - Tuesday, October 13th at 7:30p.m. in the school cafeteria. Please make every effort to attend.
INNISBROOK WRAPPING PAPER - Don't forget the orders are
due by October 15th. We are

Pre-K Cooks - Great job to our Pre-K
class who made homemade apple sauce today. They did such a good job, they did not have any leftovers.
8th Grade Confirmation Class - Sunday, October 4th is your Confirmation Enrollment Mass. I have just been informed
by the Religious Education Office that Confirmation candidates should be at Transfiguration Church at 9:30 a.m. Please
make note of this time change. This mass is the child's opportunity to express their desire and commitment to become full
members of the Body of Christ. They are in our prayers as they prepare themselves and commit to the process of becoming complete
in the spirit by participating in the Confirmation program; in service and in prayer.
Enrichment
Classes - The 2009 Fall Enrichment Program classes and registration form came home on Thursday, October 1st. Please
take a few minutes to look over the offerings, I am sure you will find a class of interest for your child. If you have

Service Projects
Thank you for all the donations to both Soyapango and the Elmsford Animal Shelter. Boxes will continue to be located

- Back by popular demand is the Transfiguration School Scrip Program. This program is a fundraising program that works
while you shop. Scrip are gift cards from national and local retailers. They're the same gift cards you buy
at the stores. Order forms for Scrip will be coming home today. This might be a good time to starting thinking
about the holidays and planning ahead. The school will be placing orders in October, November and December. The
deadline to place your order is the 6th of each month. Please help the school and support this effort.
Stop
& Shop Bonus Bucks- ****Don't forget to register your Stop & Shop cards so that the school can earn "bonus
bucks" Also, keep those box tops coming in. Tip!! If you purchase an Amazon.com scrip card and then go through the school's website to purchase items through the Amazon link, the school will get a

We are in need of some extra adult supervision during the lunch recess on Tuesday and Wednesdays. If
you are at home or work locally, please consider volunteering a few times a year or more. If

- The Marketing Committee is looking for parents to help create flyers, write letters and assist with Open Houses.
The committee meets once a month for a couple of hours and most tasks can be done from home via email.
Please consider helping this important committee. Please let me know if you have any interest in
joining our Marketing Committee. Blessing of the Animals - Transfiguration Church will have the Blessing
of the Animals on Sunday, October 4th at 2:00 p.m. The rain date is Sunday, October 11th at 2:00 p.m. in
the Church Parking Lot. Light refreshments will be available. All pets are welcome.
Please bring your pet on a leash or harness or in a carrier. Book
Fees - I have
noticed that quite a few families still have not paid their book fees. The Book Fee for Pre-K is $100.00
per child and $235.00 per child for Grades K - 8th. I would appreciate it if you could please check your
records and send it in as soon as possible. These fees are not just for books; it covers the expense of the SIS, purchase
of ITBS and NYS Tests, Insurance and Internet. SIS Program - As mentioned in my summer letter, we are recording
tuition and books bills on the SIS program. You can refer to the Financial tab in SIS to see what has been
recorded. If you are having any problems with the log in or what is recorded, please let Mrs. Coughlin
know. Our new parent's will be receiving their login and passwords on 9/28. Innisbrook
Fundraiser
- This fundraiser is still going on until October 15th, please help us reach our goal of $10,000. Remember
that we will be “suspending” Mrs. Morley from the gym wall if we meet our goal! The top three
classes will earn a spot in our first annual Pig Race!! ****IRIS System Test*** - The IRIS System is an automated
call system that we will be using to alert parents of snow days, emergency dismissals or late field trips returning. We will
continue to use Channel 12 and WFAS for snow day announcements. ON MONDAY, SEPTEMBER
28TH I will run a test of the IRIS System. You should receive a phone call to your home number
and an email to your home email address for this test. If for any reason you do not get a test call or
an email on Monday, September 28, please let the school office know on Tuesday. Please remember this is

Calendar -
I would appreciate it if you could please make the following changes to the yearly green calendar we sent home over the summer.

Soyapango - Three members of our parish will be making their third visit to Soyapango, El
Salvador on October 14th. They will be visiting the school, St. Joseph the Worker, and we would like to send school
supplies with them to give to the students there. The children and faculty were very appreciative of our gifts in the
past, so we would like to help again. We are hoping each child could give any of these items: pencils or pens, stickers,
pocket folders, small pencil sharpeners, erasers and small memo pads could also be donated. They cannot take notebooks
because of the luggage weight issues. We will pray for the safety and success of their trip at our Mass on Friday, October
9th and will present them with the items we have collected. There will be a box for donations in the school lobby.

Influenza As influenza returns
to New York this fall, the health and well-being of our students, faculty, and staff is our primary concern. The Superintendent’s
Office in the Archdiocese of New York will continue to work intensively with the Center for Disease Control (CDC), local departments
of health, and district supervising nurses to promulgate strategies for prevention and infection control in our schools. Our
goal is to keep schools open, as long is it is in the best interests of our students and faculty. Rest assured that teaching
and learning will continue even if electronic media becomes the delivery system.
Steps parents can take to help
prevent the spread of infection are listed below. These guidelines and additional educational materials are available for
download on the CDC website: http://www.cdc.gov/swineflu/ Additional communications will be sent home to you as information
becomes available. · Cover your mouth when you sneeze and cough. Use a tissue and throw it away in a receptacle.
Wash your hands after you sneeze or cough. · Wash hands frequently with soap and water. Wash long enough to sing
the “Happy Birthday” song twice. Or, use gels or wipes with alcohol in them. · Please follow the prevention
guidelines provided by the CDC. Educational materials are available on the CDC website. · Don’t get too
close to people who are sick, if possible maintain a distance of three feet. If you get sick yourself, avoid close contact
with people. · Any child with flu-like symptoms should remain home and seek medical treatment as needed. Influenza-like
illness is defined as fever with cough or sore throat. Keep in mind that an elevated temperature of even 99 degrees indicates
something is brewing. · Children should stay home from school until they are well and fever free for at least
24 hours. · Because certain people are at an increased risk of complications from H1N1 influenza, it is important
that the following individuals seek medical attention if they exhibit flu-like symptoms: - Pregnant women - People
with asthma, diabetes, chronic illness or other long term health problems
Again, the State Health Department and
the State Education Department will continue to provide guidance that will help inform our decisions in the Archdiocese of
New York. The health and safety of our students is our primary concern. Thank you for your support in protecting our students.

Dear
Parents, What a wonderful school we have and what
a wonderful year it has been. I am so blessed to be part of this wonderful community. As the 2009 school year
comes to an end I am struck by how much has been accomplished in ten months. Our students have had a fabulous year thanks
to the guidance of our faculty and the support of you their parents. On behalf of the faculty and staff I thank you
for your ongoing commitment to Transfiguration School especially during these difficult financial times. Your investment
is a wise one that will pay dividends for your children in the future. Just ask our recent alums, who come back each
year and tell us how well they were prepared for high school and how well they are doing! That is priceless! This year's graduates (I can't call them eighth graders
anymore), are off, after a tearful goodbye, to the high schools of their choice. I underscore this last part
because the students were so well prepared by their teachers, that they were able to choose which school they wanted to attend
because they were accepted into all of them. I am also proud to report that in addition to being placed in honors programs,
many students received scholarships. In today's economy receiving a financial award is testament to the students'
academic achievements. Please indulge me
as I brag a little more. 96% of our eighth grade students scored well above the norm on the New York State ELA exam.
53% of the eighth grade students received the top score of 4 on the New York State Social Studies exam. I am sure they
will do equally as well on the Math exam and I will email the results to you when I get them. And, it is not just the graduates who deserve applause. I am so very proud
of all our students' accomplishments. As a school, we scored in the 96th percentile on the ITBS test.
In addition, 100% of our fourth graders scored above the norm on the New York State ELA exam. What other school can
tout 100%? The list of noteworthy accomplishments
for this year is endless but a few worth mentioning include: - Seven of our fifth grade students won a poetry contest and have been invited to publish their poems in an anthology.
- Five of our seventh grade students have been accepted into Fordham Prep's prestigious Higher Achievement Program
for the summer.
- Eight of the students who participated in the Strawberry Arts Festival were
recognized for their contributions.
There
is no doubt that the academic program is second to none at Transfiguration School but the students also have had an opportunity
to involve themselves in a variety of pursuits that enable them to become well rounded individuals. As I reflect back
on the year, there were a number of wonderful events and activities that enhanced the curriculum. These included; the
Presidential debate, the visitors from el Salvador, the Thanksgiving play and dinner put on by the kindergarten and first
grade, the blessing of the animals and the animal shelter collection organized by the fourth grade, the honor band playing
at JFK high school, the debut of the student choir at three parish Masses, the Rosary Garden created by the second grade and
eighth grade students cooperatively, the performances at the Christmas and Spring concerts, the twirlers and marchers
at the St. Patrick's Day parade, the basketball teams, the volleyball teams, the wonderful assemblies funded by the Parent
Guild, and the list goes on and on. These are so many wonderful memories that will last a lifetime, certainly, but more
importantly that bring our school community together. As a parent community we have had a wonderful time together at the Fall Gala, Field Day, and the Spring Fundraiser.
Thank you to all the parents who contributed so much to making these a great event. And, don't forget to save the
date for next year's Fall Gala. It will be held on November 14 and the guest of honor will be Transfiguration School
as we celebrate 60 years of history and unveil our new school video! And, while you have your calendars open, I would like the parents of next year's sixth, seventh and eighth grade
to save September 15 as the date for a very special meeting just for you. The faculty and I are hosting a "Welcome
to Middle School" meeting. In addition to discussing the high school selection process, we will be presenting the
middle school curriculum for all subjects, the testing schedule for New York State exams, what to expect as parents as well
as what is expected of students entering these grades. This is a very important meeting. Over the summer I will be emailing everyone an outline of the school's goals
for the coming year, changes in the New York State testing, details of the Superintendent's strategic plan, and any other
important information. The faculty and I remain committed to the maintenance of the school's academic excellence
and to ensuring that each of the students in our care reaches their fullest potential.
Lastly, I haven't said it enough this year - thank you. It takes
an entire school community of parents who are willing to sacrifice and commit to maintaining a financially sound academic
institution. You know that the rewards for your children will be great. I am ever so grateful for your continued
support and involvement. On behalf of the faculty and staff, I wish you and your loved ones a safe, restful summer and

quick notes this week. FINAL EXAMS - This week into next week, classes will begin taking Final Exams
as well as the 8th Grade New York State Social Studies Exam and the Archdiocesan Religion Exam for Grades 3rd - 8th.
These exams will start promptly, students must be on time for school. If a student arrives late, and the exam has started, they
must wait in the lobby until the exam is over and take it at another time. I encourage all parents to reduce the
number of activities afterschool so students have enough time to study for these exams. Student's have their exam
schedule, I recommend you reveiw it with your child. 1ST GRADE FAMILY MASS - Sunday, June
7th at 10:00 a.m. NO AFTERSCHOOL PROGRAM ON JUNE 18TH. The faculty luncheon is scheduled for June 18th.
Therefore, there will be no Afterschool Program available. It will be availabe on Friday, June 19th. TUITION
- Your last tuition payment is due on June 12th. If you have any questions about your tuition or need a balance,

They are very proud of their work and want to show it off to you. Finally, the students along with the faculty and music director have been working hard to present the concert

Just a few reminders regarding Field Day - May 21st. - ALL STUDENTS WILL ATTEND 9:00 A.M. MASS FOR ASCENSION
THURSDAY I INVITE PARENTS TO COME CELEBRATE MASS WITH US.
The Pre-K class will hold their Field Day at Transfiguration starting at 10:30 a.m.
They will have pizza for lunch.
Grades K - 8th Students DO NOT
NEED TO BRING THEIR BACKPACKS.
Students in K - 8th - Will snack at 8:15 - before Mass - therefore, please send
your child to school with a snack.
The buses will leave Transfiguration approximately at 10:00 a.m. to bring the students to
Devries Park. Since the students
will be participating in sports activities, it is recommended that no jewlery be worn. EVERY
STUDENT MUST WEAR SNEAKERS. The temperature
is forecasted to be in the mid-80's - please make sure you apply sunscreen before your child comes to school in the morning.
Lunch will be provided by the Parents'
Guild - the menu is Hamburgers - Cheeseburgers and Hot Dogs. Water will be available throughout the day.
Buses will leave Devries Park at 1:00 p.m. to return back to Transfiguration. If you plan on picking up your child
at the park, please be there before 1:00 p.m. You must go to your child's teacher and sign them out. As mentioned
in my previous letter regarding Field Day, you can only sign out your child.
Parents are invited to come and watch.
Students are reminded to wear their team color shirt. This day is made possible by the efforts of Mrs. Morley, our
gym teacher, as well as, the Parents' Guild. Thank you to all the volunteers that will be helping out. The

to our 2nd Graders who are receiving First Holy Communion on Saturday. Mrs. Plunkett along with Mrs. Benza and you the
parents are commended for your guidance and preparation of these students for this special sacrament. As you receive
the body and blood of the Lord, may you be filled with God's love. God bless you on this special day.
Spring Cleaning - I have seen
a number of boys with hair that is too long. Please use the weekend as an opportunity to make a trip to the barber.
In a number of cases, I have spoken to the boys. Hair should not touch the shirt collar and should be out
of their eyes. Please also remember that
belts must be worn with the uniform pants and uniform shorts. This is part of the uniform. 6th Grade Medieval Times Field Trip - Please take note!!!!!
This field trip has been changed to Monday, May 18th - All students should have received new permission slips stating this
change. The bus will leave at 9:00a.m. and return by 2:20 p.m. PARENTS' GUILD NOMINATION - The nomination period has ended for open positions on the

Maureen has done a terrific job, working with Cristina Sullivan to enhance the record keeping process for Guild financials,

worked closely with Chris Gullotta to introduce annual cost savings of almost $2,000, by revising the Fall Calendar Raffle
and the $20,000 Raffle. That $2,000 can be redirected and spent on student programs. And, Jennifer Tucci, in her
role as Ex-Officio, has lent her support throughout the school year. Finally, thank you for supporting the work of the
Guild's Executive Board! Don't forget
to come to the upcoming Guild meeting. All dues-paying Guild members are eligible to vote to elect the nominees, at

Fundraiser - Again, I can't begin to thank the parent volunteers as well as the Parents' Guild
Board of Directors for all their efforts in making the Spring Fundraiser such as success. On behalf of the faculty and
student's, thank you!! Summer Uniforms - Students can begin wearing the summer uniform
on Friday, May 1st. Please remember all student's must wear a belt with the shorts, and shirts must be tucked in.
If you are missing any items of the summer uniform, I would recommend checking out the uniforms on the "Clothesline"
which is located near the Pre-K classroom. 7th & 8th Grade Dance- There is a dance
scheduled for Friday, May 1st in the school cafeteria. Please send in your permission slips and money as soon as possible.
8th Grade Graduation and Trip - Please don't forget all Graduation and Trip money are due on
May 8th. Tuition must be up to date. Lunch with Lou - Thursday, May 21st is Field Day.
Lunch will be provided by the Parents' Guild to all students. Therefore, do not place an order for that day with
Lunch with Lou. Midnight Run - We have a Midnight Run scheduled for this Friday, May
1st. We ask that each child bring a "Midnight Run meal" into school with them for collection. Please
label it "Midnight Run" so that there is no confusion between Midnight Run donation and a child's lunch.
Each meal should consist of: a sandwich (no peanut butter & Jelly, please) a piece of fruit, a drink, a hard boiled egg
(in its shell) a dessert/snack. If you do not have all these items available, please feel free to send in any of the
above. Donations of men's new white socks and men's new white underwear are greatly appreciated. If you

coming home tomorrow - place your script orders now for Gift Cards delivered before Mother's Day. Orders are due,
Tuesday, May 5th. Rosary Garden - 2nd & 8th Grade First Communion and Confirmation
students will be planting a rosary garden on Sunday, May 2nd from 2:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. The event will be held
rain or shine. In the event of rain, we will be in the Church Hall. Please feel free to come an join us on Sunday.
Swine Flu- You will be receiving ongoing updates regarding Swine Flu. Although most
confirmed cases of Swine Flu involve only mild illness, the virus spreads quickly. Therefore, it is essential that no
student who is exhibiting flu-like symptoms attends school or sporting events. Flu-like symptons include fever, cough, sore
throat, and running nose. Health officials believe good hygiene habits are key to limiting the spread of infection,
and I ask for your help in ensuring that your children are practicing such habits. These habits include:
Washing their hands often, with both soap and hot water, for at least 20 seconds. Properly using hand sanitizer, such
as gels, rubs, and hand wipes that contain at least 60% alcohol (hand wipes must be disposed of properly and always read and
follow label instructions when using hand sanitizer). Keep their hands away from their face and keeping any touching
of their mouth, nose, and eyes to a minimum. Covering their mouths when coughing or sneezing with either the inside
of their elbow or a tissue (they should not use their hands). Please note we are also consulting with health officials

April 22, 2009 Dear Parents, Welcome back from Easter Break.
CONFIRMATION - Congratulations to our 8th Grade student's who received the sacrament of Confirmation
on Saturday, April 18th. It was a wonderful and inspirational ceremony. The students with the guidance of their
teacher, Ms. Deltoro performed hours of community service along with retreats to prepare them for this sacrament. Our
prayers are with them that they spread the faith by their words and actions as true witnesses of Christ. Flynn
& O'Hara Uniforms Company - Will be at Transfiguration on Thursday, April 23 from 8:30-11:00. Order
froms went home on Tuesday. Teacher Luncheon - Thursday, April 23rd - On behalf of
the faculty, I would like to thank all the parents who are working hard to make this lunch a success. We are very grateful
for your thoughtfullness and appreciate all the time and effort that you put into this luncheon. Report
Cards - Will be distributed on Friday, April 24th. Please sign the envelope and return to your child's
teachers. As I am reviewing and signing these report cards, I am noticing a large number of students with excessive
lateness. As we start the fourth quarter, I ask that you have your child here before 8:00 a.m. If I continue to
see more than 4 late passes, the student will be asked to sit in the lobby and wait until the first period is over to enter
the classroom. Spring Fundraiser - Saturday, April 25 at 7:30 p.m. in the Church Hall.
There is no way to begin to tell you the amount of time and effort that goes into this fundraiser. The Parents'
Guild Board of Directors along with many parent volunteers have put timeless hours into making this a successful fundraiser.
The benefits of this fundraiser are felt by each and every student at Transfiguration School. Therefore, I can't
stress enough for each family to come and support this wonderful event on Saturday night. Who knows, you may leave $20,000
richer. ENRICHMENT PROGRAM - Before the Easter break, we sent home registration forms for
the After School Enrichment Programs. We did not get a good response so we are extending the deadline until Friday,
April 24th. If you have any interest in these programs, please send back the registration forms by Friday. If
you have any questions, please contact Elizabeth Belenger at 524-0740. D.A.R.E Graduation -
Monday April, 27 at 7:00 p.m. in the school gym. The 5th Grade class will be recognized for their efforts towards the
completion of the D.A.R.E program. Transfiguration School strongly supports the D.A.R.E. program which focuses on peer
resistance training, self-concept improvement and making good value judgments about respect for the law and personal safety.
Congratulations to our 5th Grade . 7th & 8th Grade Dance - Friday, May 1st. Permission

We are counting down the hours to Easter and there are a number of loose ends to take care of before the break. The
Parent Guild nomination form went out yesterday. Please check your child's backpack. Also, a reminder
that the 7th and 8th grade are having a dance on Friday, May 1. Permission slips will go out when we return.

- Congratulations to all our players for a wonderful basketball season. Thank you to all our coaches, volunteers and
parents in their efforts to help this program run smoothly. It's alot of work but the benefits are great.
A special thanks to Mr. & Mrs. Rob Sullivan for setting up for Sports Award night and Mr. Terry McGlynn for his dedication
to this very successful sports program. NCAA GAME - Monday, April 6th at 8:00 p.m.

Come eat, drink and watch the game. You might leave with a flat panel TV. PARENTS' GUILD
MEETING - Tuesday, April 7th at 7:30 p.m. in the school cafeteria. All families are welcome and encouraged
to attend. These meetings enable parents to get more information regarding events sponsored by the Parents' Guild
as well as information on academic, testing and school related matters. This is a great way to find out how you can
get involved. 11:00 a.m. DISMISSAL ON WEDNESDAY APRIL 8TH. HOLY
THURSDAY AND GOOD FRIDAY - There will be a Mass of the Last Supper at 8:00 p.m. on Holy Thursday
at church and Stations of the Cross at 12:00 p.m. on Good Friday as well as The Passion at 3:00 p.m. Students
should attend these services during these most important days of the Liturgical Year. They are important traditions
of our Catholic faith. CLASS BASKETS - Each family received a letter from their child's
class parents regarding putting together a class basket for the Spring Fundraiser. If you have not sent in your donation
or money please do so immediately . If you do not know your child's class parent name, please write on the envelope Class
Basket with your child's name and grade on it, or visit the school website at www.transfigurationschool.org for the listing of class parents. Please do not forget this is very important. These class parents are working hard
to finish these baskets and need your help now. $20,000 RAFFLE TICKETS - Please check and make
sure you sent in your raffle ticket money. If you have not done so already, please get your tickets in as soon
as possible. We need participation from all families. This is also a good time to confirm your babysitter
for Saturday, April 25 from 7:30 p.m to 10:00 pm. The Spring Fundraiser is one of the Parents' Guild biggest event.
A lot of work goes into making the evening a success, and we need our parents to support this event. All proceeds
goes to Transfiguration School. Please make every effort to attend on April 25th. It is truly a wonderful
evening. GYM USE - Just a reminder, if coaches are using the gym for a game,
practice,or team party, you must have adult supervision of the halls and the playground. Lack of proper adult supervision
is a liability exposure for the school. Also, you must clean up before you leave. There are too many soda
cans, water bottles, candy wrappers and pizza boxes left outside that we have to remove before we can let the students use
the playground for recess. My recommendation is that you make an announcement before the game, practice etc. that students
must remain with parents during games, and not allowed on the playground without an adult. DELIVERY
OF FORGOTTEN ITEMS - Parents, please note, going forward, all lunches, instruments, homework, books,
etc. should be left on the benches in the lobby. Please do not bring these into the office. If a student
has forgotten any of these, they will know to look on the benches for these items. I strong suggest that parents remind
their children of their responsibilities to bring these items in with them. I also believe that parents should
not deliver these items if a child continually forgets to bring them. A lesson on responsibility will be taught.
SPRING FEVER - The warm weather is on its way. Please remember that there are 3 more months
of school. Student's must keep their mind on school work and meet their academic obligations until the very last
day of the school year. I am hearing too many concerns from teachers who are getting excuses for why work is not being
done. Sports, busy weekends, and late games are not reasons for not getting work done. School is a priority, according

ON FRIDAY, MARCH 27TH. - We lost our snow days therefore, school is in session for March 27, May 22
and May 26th. Please mark your calendars. IBM MATCHING GRANT- As stated in my
last email, I am very grateful to Mr. & Mrs. Konuru and Mrs. & Mrs. Flicker for generously donating money towards
new computers for Transfiguration School in the IBM Matching Grant Program. Also thank you to Ms.
Deirdre O'Connor, a parishioner, who was a co-donor for this Matching Grant Program. Again, thank you all for
your donations, Transfiguration School community truly appreciates all that you have given us. STUDENT
INFORMATION SYSTEM (SIS) - Log on information and passwords went home on Thursday, March 19th. If
you have not yet received it, please check your child's backpack. Each family was sent an envelope with
the youngest child. I encourage all families to log on and look at this information. Your child's grades (1st
- 8th) as well as attendance, and household contact information are listed. I have also made it possible for you
to connect to the school website from the parent page. SCHOOL WEBSITE - SCHOOLS NEWSLETTER

of all the great things happening at Transfiguration School. I also must stress referring to the school
website often for any information regarding upcoming events, copies of forms, calendars and general information.

- It's getting close - only 16 teams left. Come watch the final game here at Transfiguration School,
April 6th at 8:00 p.m. Tickets are still available for the Transfiguration Sports Program NCAA Basketball Finals.

DAY PARADE - Thank you for all who marched on Sunday in the Tarrytown/Sleepy Hollow St. Patrick's Day Parade.
ST. JUDE'S MATH-A-THON - Ms. Deltoro would like to thank the 104 students that
participated in the St. Jude's Math-a-Thon. Transfiguration School sent a check to St. Jude's in the amount
of $6,700.00. The Fifth Grade had the most contributions in the amount of $1,532.90 - congratulations to all!!!!
IBM MATCHING GRANT - I am very grateful to Mr. & Mrs. Konuru and Mr. & Mrs. Flicker who
have generously donated money towards the school being the recipient of IBM equipment from the Matching Grant Program
at IBM. We have two new desktops, several flat panel monitors and a new lap top. MIDNIGHT RUN - FRIDAY,
MARCH 20TH - Each family is asked to bring in a Midnight Run meal into school with them for collection. It
is part of our ongoing service projects. Please be sure to clearly label this meal Midnight Run. Each meal should

GUILD MEETING - JOIN US TONIGHT WEDNESDAY, APRIL 11TH AT 7:30 P.M. IN SCHOOL CAFETERIA FOR THE MONTHLY PARENTS' GUILD
MEETING. FRIDAY, MARCH 13, - SCHOOL IS CLOSED - TEACHER CONFERENCE.
ST. PATRICK'S DAY PARADE - Yes!!! we will march, we have about 80 people marching.
The weather forecast is showing a good day for a parade. If you signed up to march with the school, we are lining up
on John Street, which is the first left off Main Street in Tarrytown at 1:00 p.m. Our twirlers will lead us up Main
Street in Tarrytown, along Route 9 into Sleepy Hollow and down Beekman Avenue. We will end at St. Theresa's Church
in Sleepy Hollow. If you have not signed up, but would like to join us, please meet us at John Street. I really
would love to see as many families as possible enjoying this event. BUSING - Don't
forget to mail in your Bus Transportation Forms to your school district. These must be mailed directly to the Transportation
Department by April 1st. If you need one for the Tarrytowns School District, please let the school office know.
All other districts, you must contact your Transportation Department for a form. I strongly recommend that all students
that are eligable for busing sign up for it. We have too many parents that are picking up students daily, that should
be on buses. This is creating a problem in our parking lot that can be avoided. Only parents of Pre-K students
and parents of student's that are ineligible for busing should be the only parents in the parking lot daily. You
are paying for this transportation in your taxes. Use it or you might lose it with the next rounds of budget cuts
in the school districts. SATURDAY, MARCH 14 - BANNER DAY FOR OUR 2ND GRADE COMMUNICANTS.
9:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. at Church. $20,000 RAFFLE - Flyers with information about
the $20,000 raffle were sent home last week. The flyer includes a tear-off form that needs to be returned to school,
with your checks, by Thursday, March 12. School families were given a two-week advance on raffle sales, in order to
meet their fundraising obligation to sell two chances at $100 each. Remember, only 400 tickets will be sold. If
you've misplaced your flyer, contact the school office or download one from the school website (www.transfigurationschool.org). HOW WOULD YOU LIKE A CHANCE TO WIN A FREE MONTH'S TUITION? That's one month,
whether you have one, two, or ten children in the school! To earn a chance, all you have to do is donate or solicit
one item (with a fair-market value of $50 to $99) for the Spring Auction. Want two chances? Just donate one or more
items, valued at $100 or more. Need an idea? Well, if you plan on buying a gift card from a local establishment, why
not ask that establishment if they could make a donation by matching your purchase! It's an easy way to increase

HONOR BAND -Congratulations to our 10 student's who were choosen to participate in the Lower Hudson Valley
Honor Band concert. These students represent the "cream of the crop" musicians from our area schools.

2009 Dear Parents, Welcome back from mid-winter break. Ash Wednesday - All students will be attending mass on Wednesday, February 25th. Students
in Grades 2nd - 8th will receive ashes. Students in Pre-K - 1st will be given a blessing. To prepare the student's
for the joy of Easter, students in Grades 2nd - 8th will be going to Stations of the Cross on Friday, February 27th at
1:45 and March 20th at 1:45. I encouage you talk to your children to make a sincere effort to change
our hearts and grow closer to God through prayer and sacrifice. St. Jude Math-A-Thon - Ms. Deltoro is very pleased by the amount of students
participating in the Math-A-Thon. The Funbooks were distributed to the students participating. They should
be completing the math problems and collect the pledges. The projected date of returns for all donations is
February 27th. Please remember that all checks should be made out to St. Jude Hospital. This again is another

notes before we break for mid-winter recess. St. Patrick's Day Parade - Once again Transfiguration
School has been asked to march in the Sleepy Hollow St. Patrick's parade on Sunday March 15th. This has been
a tradition at Transfiguration but in recent years we have seen less participation. I ask that you consider joining
me as we represent our school to the communities of Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow. We will start marching at 1:00p.m and
march down Beekman Avenue in Sleepy Hollow and are usually done by 2:30p.m. This is a great opportunity to spend with
your children and their friends and other parents of Transfiguration School and demonstrate our patriotism and spirit.
The kids really enjoy this event. Please think about this over the vacation, When we return, I will be
sending home a sign up form. We need more participation so we can continue this wonderful tradition.

The $20,000 Raffle sales will kick-off when we return from winter recess. This is our signle,
largest fundraiser and all school families are expected to support the raffle by selling two chances. Many parents have
had great success sellingraffle chances to friends, relatives or even to groups of co-workers. So how does it work?
Here are the highlights; more information can be found on the school website. - Each chance
costs $100 and only 400 chances are sold.
- Each school family is expected to sell 2 chances.

A raffle entry form will be sent home to each school family, after the mid-winter recess. Complete the form and return it
to school, along with a check, to be assigned a raffle number (1-400). Raffle entries will be confirmed via a letter, sent
by mail.
- The Grand Prize drawing for $20,000 is held at the Annual Spring Auction, on Saturday,
April 25, 2009.
LUNCH WITH LOU - If you order Lunch with Lou for your child, going
forward any fruit or snack that was not eaten will be returned home. We are seeing quite a few students not eating their
fruit and snacks that was provided. If your child is absent and ordered Lunch with Lou, we will refridgerate it and
give it to them the next day. After two days absence, it will be thrown out. There is alot to think about over

Dear Parents, Do you know how Polar Bears keep warm? - Our Pre-Kindergarten and 5th Graders will team up as lab partners
and investigate insulation of animals on Wednesday. This parnership will give our 5th Graders a
chance to show what they are working on in Science and it enables our PreKindergarten class to work
with an upper class. PARENTS'
GUILD MEETING - There is a Parents' Guild Meeting scheduled for Wedesday, February 11 at 7:30 p.m. in
the school cafeteria. There are many topics going to be discussed. If you are unable to attend this meeting, I ask
you to please consider helping out the Parents' Guild when they call upon you. Children learn from their parents example.
Currently, they are working on the Spring Fundraiser which is scheduled for April 25th. Now is the perfect time to mark
your calendars, arrange for a baby sitter, and call some friends to attend our biggest fundraiser. If you can help,

the 7th Grade who were council winners in the Knights of Columbus Foul Shooting Contest. We wish them luck as they move

RUN - Friday February 13th is our next Midnight Run. We ask that each child
bring a "Midnight Run meal" into school with them for collection. Please label it Midnight Run" so that there
is no confusion between Midnight Run donation and a child's lunch. Each meal should consist of: A Sandwich
(no peanut butter & jelly, please) A piece of fruit, A drink, A hard boiled egg (in its shell, please)

LATENESS
- I have noticed that we have many students arriving late for school. Please have your children in school by 8:00a.m.
We are starting the third quarter and I do not want to see so many late students. New York State Education law requires that
we report all lateness. These are posted to the record card which follows the student to high school. Admissions directors
take all aspects of a child's performance into account when making decisions. The bottom line is that lateness,
other than an extreme emergency, is not permitted at Transfiguration School. Please be respectful of the schools policy.
ADVERTISING - I am looking for someone in our parent population to join our Marketing Committee
that has/had experience creating ad campaigns. I am particularly interested in ad directors, copywriters and/or graphic
designers. Please call the school office at 631-3737 and let me know if you can help. REPORT CARDS
- Please be aware that it has been the New York Archdiocesan policy that actual grades be posted on report cards. This
is not a decision made at the school level. DOORS OPEN - Please be reminded that the school
doors open at 7:45 a.m. I am concerned with the number of students waiting outside in the cold weather. We
do not have enough coverage to open the doors before 7:45 a.m. If you drive your child to school, please have them
remain in the car until 7:45. We have reminded the bus companies of the policy and they are required to keep students
on the bus until the doors open. GUM - We are a gum free school. I have been seeing gum
on the front steps as well as in both bathrooms. This rule should be adhered to during basketball practice and games.
WINNERS....WINNERS - We have some great basketball players in this school!!! We almost missed
our buses today because our foul shooting contest in grades 3-8 had so many students making great shots. Congratulations

Catholic School Breakfast
- We had a wonderful response on Sunday for our Catholic Schools mass and breakfast. It was great to see
so many school families participate in the celebration of the mass and breakfast. I am sure you will agree that our
school choir, readers and faculty did an outstanding job in making Sunday a success. Green & Gold Day - Because of the snow day on
Wednesday, Green & Gold as well as our Foul Shooting contest will be held on Wednesday, February 4th.
Your child can dress down but are asked to wear something with either/or green or gold to show school spirit.
IRIS - (Immediate Response Information System) This system will allow the school to notify you by phone and email important events, such as, school closings due
to weather or a delayed field trip etc. A letter will be coming home with your child today. Please fill the
information out as soon as possible and return it to the school office no later than Feburary 9th. We would like to begin

GUILD - Take a few minutes to read through the Parents' Guild Mid-Year Report and get caught up on all that
is going on. The Report can also be found on the school website. The Parents' Guild is looking for volunteers to help out with the Spring Auction. There are so many ways

22, 2009 Dear Parents, I have to date 7 parents coming with me on the bus to Archbishop Stepinac High
School next Thursday night, January 29th. We need many more parents and I need two students in uniform (attending
with their parents) to carry the Transfiguration School banner. Please consider coming and contact me ASAP. This
is very important. The bus will leave
Transfiguration School parking lot at 6:30 p.m. It is promised that the rally will take no longer than one hour.
So, we will arrive back at Transfiguration School around 8:30 p.m. The Cardinal, Dr. Timothy McNiff (Superintendent of Schools, NY Archdiocese), Phil Gorrasi (District Superintendent
for Westchester/Putnam), Susan Oppenheimer (newly appointed Director of Education) and the state legislators (at least five
of them) will be in attendance along with the press and media. We need to show solidarity and present our concerns.

GREEN & GOLD DAY - JANUARY 28TH -
On Wednesday, January 28, students are permitted to dress down BUT must wear Green

- If you are planning to attend the breakfast on Sunday, January 25, please remind your children
that they must remain with you during this breakfast. There are many locations in the church hall where there is hot
food and coffee and we do not want to see anyone get hurt. Also, Fr. Lucian has furniture set up in the hall. Please

Run- Has been an important tradition. Students who would like to participate in the Breakfast Run for the
homeless on March 8th should contact Mrs. Fragola as soon as possible. We only have 4 students signed up. Parents,
do not let your child miss this opportunity. It will be a profound experience for them. LOOSE CHANGE FOR SOYPANGO - The school collected
$2,245.00 in loose change! - The Twinning Committee of Transfiguration Church and the children of St. Joseph the Worker
School would like to thank you for participating in this collection and for being so generous. Going forward, our 7th and 8th Grade students will be working on corresponding
each month with the children from St. Joseph the Worker in their Spanish classes as well as doing an Art project scheduled

WEEK - Let's Celebrate!!!!!
- We will kick off Catholic Schools Week on
Sunday, January 25th. We will come together as a school community at the 10:00 a.m. Mass followed by breakfast.
This breakfast will be cooked by some of the best chef's in Tarrytown, the Faculty and Staff of Transfiguration
School. There are a few seats still available, please send in your reservation form by Thursday.
- We will continue our celebration on Tuesday with an Open House from 9:00a.m. to 11:00a.m. If you know anyone
interested in having their children attend Transfiguration School, please invite them.
- On Wednesday, we will have a foul shooting contest for students in Grades 3rd- 8th. The winners
from each grade will be presented a prize from me.
- Thursday we will continue
with our long standing tradition at Transfiguration School, Heritage Day. Students bring in samples of food from
their heritage. Students will not only learn about other student's heritage through projects, but will taste foods
from many different countries. We invited parents to come in and visit starting at 11:30.
- We will complete our celebration on Friday, taking our queue from this year's Catholic Schools theme of;
"celebrate service". Classes will hold a Penny Bingo game with the pennies going to our twinning parish in
Soyapango.
POLITICAL ACTION NIGHT -
There is still room on the bus! Please plan on joining us at the Political Action Night on Thursday, January 29th.
The bus will leave Transfiguration parking lot at 6:30 p.m. and return no later than 9:00p.m. This is an important

12, 2009 Dear Parents, Picture Day - looks like it was a success with our new
photographer. If your child was absent for these pictures, make-up pictures will be taken on January 23rd for individual

The overall message delivered by our students to Fr. James was, they will always remember his homilies and wonderful stories
of his family. We bid Fr. James farewell with a wonderful mass followed by each classes favorite memory of Fr. James
and ending with one of Fr. James favorite foods, donuts for all. Congratulations to our 2nd Grader's who received the sacrament of Reconciliation on Saturday

Wonderland Dance - Not even a snow storm can keep our 7th and 8th Graders from dancing. We had a good turn
out on Saturday despite the weather. Thank you to all the chaperones and parents for getting the kids to the dance.

Midterms and NYS ELA Exams - will
start this week for Grades 1 - 8. Please have your children on time for school. Playground - It is school policy that students are not permitted to touch or play
in the snow or in the wooded area. If your child is a walker at dismissal, I must insist these rules are
followed after school hours. It is a trememdous liability and we have had incidents where students are kicking and
throwing snow into the parking lot which creates a situation where someone has to come out and move that snow for the afterschool
program to use that area. 5th
Grade Family Mass - Rehearsal Meeting will be on Monday January 26 at 7:00 p.m. in church. The 5th Grade
Family Mass is scheduled for Sunday, February 1, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. If you have a 5th Grade student that would like

Food Day. This is a tradition at Transfiguration School, where all the children bring in culinary dishes highlighting
their heritage. The event is celebrated on Thursday, January 29, during Catholic Schools Week and is held in conjunction
with Parent's Visiting Day. It's always a lot of fun for students, teachers and parents! Be sure

Picture Day- January 7th for Grades -
Kindergarten - 7th January
8th Grades - Pre-K, 8th Grade, and Extra Curricular Activities Please don't forget to send your child with the picture envelope. Bring your uniforms if you are on the
basketball, twirling, or volleyball teams. Also, let the office know if you need another form. Students can
wear dress clothes. If your child is sick on their picture day, January 23rd will be a make up date for children who
were absent. Please call the school if there are any questions. Enrichment Program - Registration is still open for the excellent Enrichment Programs
being offered starting next week. All forms should be in by Wednesday, January 7th. Please go to the school website

New York State English Language Arts Exam and
School Mid-Terms During the week
of January 12th - 16th - The fourth grade will be taking the New York State ELA. Grades 1st - 3rd, and 5th
- 8th will be taking their mid-term exams. During the week of January 20th - 23rd - The eighth grade will be taking the New York State ELA.
I recommend during this testing period, all students
get plenty of sleep, make sure breakfast is eaten, come prepared with pencils and pens, and be on time for
class. The teachers will be handing out an exam schedule along with study guide. I encourage
you to make sure your child has time set aside to study for exams. Registration - Registration and transportation forms will be coming home this
week. Please check your child's folder for this form. We start re-registration for our current student
population now and open the registration to the public on January 27th. This form must be returned to school by January
19th. If you have a younger child ready for our Pre-K or Kindergarten program, please let the office know by January
19th. Transportation forms for the Public School of the Tarrytown, will be attached to the registration form. If you
reside in another school district, please contact their transportation office before April 1st. Also, if you

January 25th To celebrate the beginning
of Catholic Schools Week, Transfiguration School will come together as a community to participate in the Liturgy at 10:00
am on Sunday, January 25 followed by breakfast in the Church Hall. The school faculty will cook and serve breakfast
to parents and children. A reservation form will go home this week. Seating is limited... first come..first served...
This event has sold out in the past...it is a great way to kick off a week of celebration of Catholic Schools. Please

Parent Guild Calendar Raffle - We
are under way with our daily drawing of Calendar Raffle winners. Each day from January 1st through March 31st a
ticket will be picked as a winner and returned to the drawing. Thank you for all your work in selling these tickets.
We wish you luck and will post winners at the end of each month. Loose Change for Soyapango - Change will be collected until the end of this week. The
Transfiguration Parish Twinning Committee would like to thank all those who participated in this collection.
Father James Sidoti - As you may
be aware, Fr. James will be leaving Transfiguration Parish in a week. In order to show our thanks and wish him
well, we will celebrate Mass on Friday, January 9th at 9:00a.m. and send him off with an assembly in the

Concert - Thursday, December 18th - Church - Band members 6:30pm Church
Hall, Pre-K meet in church near organ by 6:45pm, Kindergarten meet in Church chapel behind the altar by 6:45pm.
Grades 1-8 not in band go to the classrooms at 6:45pm. Picture Day - picture envelopes
went home today, 12/17. Each child has an envelope. Please check your child's folders. Picture Day is
January 7th and 8th which is Wednesday and Thursday of the week after Christmas break. Please check the January calendar
for which classes take pictures on which days. Because we have a new photographer, please take a few minutes to

- Please continue to collect your loose change for Soyapango over the Christmas break. The parish will
be collecting it on the Feast of the Epiphany, Sunday, January 10th at the 10:00 a.m. Mass. The children will be invited
to place their jar on the altar during the offeartory procession. Mrs. Plunkett will also collect the jars at school

Children - As the colder weather makes an entrance, I would like to review some guidelines of when to keep
your child home. Children should not be sent to school when they have been ill the prior
afternoon or night. One episode of vomiting or diarrhea should warrant a day of observation and rest at home.
Children who have a fever of 100 degrees or higher should remain home until they have been fever-free for at least 24 hours.
Tylenol given before school does not speed a child's recovery, and that child's attendance exposes others to illness.
Children who have a communicable disease and are taking prescribed antibotics should not come back
to school until at least 24 hours have passed from the first dose of antibiotic. If your child
MUST take a medication during school hours, 8a.m. - 2:25p.m. the nurse can administer that medication to him/her if you provide
a medication form signed by both the doctor and parent. This form is available in the school office or your may request
one from the nurse. An adult must bring the medication to school with the doctor's orders.
If your child appears sick then he/she probably is ill and it is best to keep him/her home. Please call
the School Office at 631-3737 by 8:30 a.m. if your child will be out. Upon return, a note from the parent/guardian
stating the reason for the absence (this is a state law) must be given to the teacher. If we do not have a written excuse
for the absence, the day is reported as an unexcused absence from school. If you wish to discuss any of the above, please
feel free to call our school nurse at 631-7075.

Parents, POLITICAL ACTION FORUM Please save the date, January 29, 2009. That evening at Stepinac High School parents
and administration from all the Catholic schools in the Westchester/Putnam area will be meeting with our state legislators
in a political action forum designed to restore Mandated Services, and discuss inequities in school nurses and transportation.
It is vital that our voices be heard. Each and every school needs representation. Just today, I received notification that two district in the upper counties will
be cutting transportation for nonpublic school students on days that the district is closed as well as on nonpublic school
half days. Although this does not effect Transfiguration directly, the fact is that it is not unusual for all county
districts to follow suit once one or two of the districts come up with a new idea. I am asking for parent volunteers
to be on the lookout for such discussions in the fourteen districts Transfiguration draws students from, and attend every
Board of Education meeting for the next few months. If public schools are forced to cut budgets due to the
fiscal crisis, then some of those cuts may come down on our students and parents backs. We must be proactive and stop
these discussions before they start. Please let me know if I can count on your help. TREE/WREATH & BOOK SALE The trees are
all gone, the books all sold and the wreaths all hung. But one thing was left behind; students
memories of a fun day at Transfiguration School. This memory was made possible by all the helping hands that made last
weekend possible. We had moms, dads, and students working hard selling trees, books and wreaths, we had the athletes playing
in basketball games. Some parents sold trees, watched their child play or coached a basketball game, and
then worked the book fair. We had other parents and alumni continuing the tradition by supporting our efforts by purchasing
trees and wreaths. Thank you to all as it truly was a wonderful day, Remember all the proceeds go
right back to your children. CALENDAR
RAFFLE If you have not handed in your Parents' Guild Calendar Raffle tickets, please
do so by Friday, December 12th. School families are required to support this important fundraiser by
selling 15 tickets. The drawing will start on January 1st. One ticket will be drawn each day and the ticket returned
to the drawing. But we need your tickets in there in order for you to win. Please put the money in the original
manila envelope with your ticket stubs, make sure it is filled in clearly, checks should be made out to Transfiguration Parents'
Guild. If you need more tickets, please let the office know. These tickets are wonderful stocking stuffers.
ADVENT This week is the
Second Week of Advent. On Monday mornings during Advent, our students and faculty gather in the gym
for an Advent Prayer Service. The word Advent is from the Latin word meaning "coming". These Advent services
remind the students of the importance of Advent and how they can prepare by acts of love and prayer. I ask if
you could please take a few minutes and reflect with your children the meaning of Advent as we celebrate with gladness,
the great promise. If you
haven't noticed or have not been in the school lately, we have two trees in our lobby. One of these trees is adorned
with hat and mittens which will be donated to The Mercy Center and the other is a Jesse Tree, decorated with symbols
of the ancestors of Jesus from the Old Testament. Each class was responsible for creating a symbol for this tree. The
Church anticipates the coming of Jesus through readings that span the Old Testament creation story through Jesus' birth.
Jesse, for whom the tree is named, is the first person in the geneology of Jesus. Jesse was the father of King David.
It comes from Isaiah 11:1 "A shoot will spring forth from the stump of Jesse, and a branch out of his roots."
It is a vehicle to tell the story of God in the Old Testament. ENRICHMENT PROGRAMS - IT'S BACK!!!!!! The Enrichment Program offers
students an opportunity to participate in a variety of classes that are one hour long (2:30 - 3:30) and run for about 6-8
weeks at Transfiguration School. Some of the programs will include Basketball Clinic, Golf, Drama, plus much more. Registration
forms and class descriptions will be available on the school website: www.transfigurationschool.org. Keep in mind these classes fill up quick. Enrollment is based on first come, first served.
CHRISTMAS CONCERT -
DECEMBER 18th - All grades participate. Band
members will meet in the church hall at 6:30 p.m. Pre-K will meet
in the church near the organ by 6:45 p.m. Kindergarten will meet in the church
in the chapel behind the altar by 6:45p.m. Grades 1st - 8th students
should go to their classrooms at 6:30p.m. Parent's, Grandparent's, Aunt's, Uncle's, and friend's can go to the church, sit back and
enjoy the performance. Our students and faculty have been working hard to prepare for this concert, please be considerate.
DRESS DOWN DAY Because
of all their hard work preparing for the concert, Friday, December 19th, will be a dress down day for all

MASS Family Mass - 5th Grade: February 1, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. All Fifth Graders and their families
are invited to take an active part in the preparation and celebration of the next Family Mass. There are many ways

CHANGES Finally, notes regarding dismissal must be sent in with students. We cannot accomodate the amount
of changes being called in during the day, it is becoming too disruptive to both the classes and students. An emergency

Dear Parents, Congratulations to our Kindergarten and First Grade classes
and their teachers for a wonderful Thanksgiving performance
and feast. Report Cards and Conference letters have gone home. Please notify
your child's teacher if you would like to schedule a conference. As is our tradition at Transfiguration
School, our Christmas tree will be going up on December 1st. Please help us decorate
it with new hats and mittens. These hats and mittens will be given to the Mercy Center
to enjoy for Christmas. I would like to acknowledge
our choir members who participated in the Feast of St. Cecelia at the 10:00 a.m. Mass on Sunday November
23rd. It was a great opportunity to have the school choir join the parish choir in this mass.
I am not wishing for snow just yet... but in the event of
a school closing due to weather, I want to remind you where to find out if Transfiguration School
is closed. We will post on Channel 12 News, WFAS radio 103.9 FM and 1030 AM. It will be listed on our website
- www.transfigurationschool.org. and we will change our phone announcement to indicate the closing. We will also (if we are able), email you a closing
notice. Keep in mind that if the Tarrytown Public Schools are closed, Transfiguration is closed. For students not
in the Tarrytown school district, you might want to find out from your school district what arrangements if any if in the
event they are closed and Transfiguration is open, will there be transportation. This has been an issue in the past
and this might be a good time to look into it. The parish is getting ready for
the Christmas Eve Pageant - following is the schedule: Thursday 12/11 - practice
for instruments only 5:00pm-6:00pm in Church - Tuesday 12/16 -
pageant participants only NO instruments 7:00pm in Church -- Monday 12/22
- dress rehearsal for EVERYONE 7:00 PM CHURCH. Wednesday 12/24 - Meet at 4:15pm in the
CHURCH HAll. The Pageant Mass starts at 4:45pm. Children can still
sign up if they would like but they must be present for their pertinent rehearsals. If you have any questions, please

be a Parents' Guild Meeting on Tuesday December 2nd at 7:30p.m. in the school cafeteria.
I encourage you to attend. These meetings are a great opportunity for me to tell you what is going on in school and
for the Parents' Guild to keep you up to date on events being planned and how you can help. Some of
the topics that will be discussed are: After School Enrichment program., School Marketing, Passive Fundraising (Amazon,Scrip.Box
Tops) Parent Survey, Recent and Upcoming Events, Committee Reports, Class Parent Reports, Guild Communications.
Please make time to attend this meeting. Also, please review the school website for more information regarding links
on the school website. There will be a St. Nicholas Family Day Bible
Study and Christmas Crafts on Saturday, December 13th in the Church Hall from 2:00pm-4:00pm. Adults and 6th-8th
Graders can attend a Bible Study Class while younger children attend a craft session. This day is provided by the Religious
Education Office. The cost per child is $6.00 for craft supplies. For planning purposes reservations are required,

This is the last order before Christmas. New retailers have been added. Please have orders returned to school
by Thursday, December 4th. On Saturday, December
6th will be the Transfiguration School Annual Tree/Wreath Sale and Book Fair from 8:00am - 4:00pm I
invite you to come and shop the book fair and pick up a tree or wreath. Our students love this day to
show off their school to Grandparents and friends and to see other classmates outside the classroom. The students will
be going to the Scholastic Book Fair on Thursday and Friday. A schedule was made for each class to view and
make a wish list. The wish list will be sent home so you know which items your child was interested in. You can
send money (preferably a check so cash will not get lost) in with your child so they can purchase books on Thursday and Friday
or come on Saturday and purchase. Please make checks payable to: Transfiguration Parents' Guild.
As you can see from the above mentioned, there is always something going on at Transfiguration,
these events could not happen without a tremendous amount of work by our committee chairs, Parents' Guild Board
and faculty. I thank Mr. Joe Agro and his team with the help of the fourth grade parents selling trees and also
Mrs. Lee Anne Sullivan and Mrs. Shevaun Doyle and their team of book elves as well as Mrs. Audrey Moore for ordering the many
